I have had a pair of Denon AH-C551* IEMs for a number of years, I would now be looking to upgrade. I would also consider changing the silicone ear tips to something better. The other day I tried on a pair of bose circamural headphones and whilst not blown away by the sound quality I was amazed at how comfy they were and would happily consider either a pair of IEMs or a circamural set. I also tried numerous super-aural sets and without exception found them either uncomfortable, difficult to keep in place or both.

My personal taste in music is varied and whilst I do listen to classical, RnB and some rock the majority of my listening is comprised of EDM with a particular proclivity for trance. The majority of my listening will be through my iPhone with high bitrate but admittedly lossy all the same mp3/aac files. Ergo an inline remote compatible with IOS devices would be beneficial. I don't have a stern budget but something under the $200/£150 mark would be ideal. I would be looking for a noticeable improvement in the overall sound quality over my existing set.  I also fly long haul relatively frequently, I believe this eliminates open backed headphones it also means that isolation is important, It would be great if I don't have to turn it to 11 to drown out the sound of a couple hundred thousand horsepower.

Assuming you are in the U.K., the Bose AE set you tried had angled drivers and you ears did not touch anything, and you fly frequently, you should get the Sony MDR-1RNC:
