Hey Head-fi,

I am very new to this community and new to headphones as well! Soo, uhh. Hope you guys/girls don't mind me asking very noobie questions.

Anyway, within this month I'm thinking on buying a new music player and a new pair of headphones. So in conclusion I'm thinking on buying a Cowon J3 or a Sansa Clip+ or maybe an iPod Touch 4G to listen to my music.

E.g. Bloc Party, Radiohead, Alfie Boe, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Muse, The Wombats and so on. . .(pretty much every genre

)

So I'm trying to find a great pair of headphones that are around $0-$150. I had a look at some Sennheisers, but I rather ask headphone experts to help me out instead of me impulse buying.

I am somewhat hoping that the pair of headphones are good with overall genres of music.

Thanks in advance, MooshiMuushi

Hmm. Found the AKG K430 headphones, looks pretty decent. Reviews were pretty good. Any other suggestions?

Sennheisers pretty much require an amp.  You can get the discontinued 595 in your price range.  If you plan primarily using your player and not using an amp - the ATH M50 is an excellent all around headphone and does fine without an amp.

HD 595 is a brilliant idea if you can find it. Or even the cheaper HD 448. I never had problems using my Sennheisers on portable players, they all go loud to extremely loud on them. But i heard people complaining on low volume from ipods and iphones. So maybe its a good idea to look at a player with more power like the Cowons.

Are you planning on using the headphones for home or portable use?

Well. I'm planning on using while going to school and back (via bus). So, somewhat portable and quite good isolation. I love isolating the world while listening to music :)

Maybe an Ultrasone H-Fi 580, it has similar characteristics as the m50

The Ultrasone H-Fi 580, from what I see is a little bit to big. (Just a little). I'm trying to find something that is like the Sennheiser PX-200-II/100 or the AKG K430.
Right now I'm trying to find out which is better between those 2 portable headphones.

I'm also thinking on buying a pair of headphones for home. What I am looking forward to the most is the Sennheiser HD448, but that can be changed.

Oh, if you wanted smaller headphones, the PX200-ii are pretty good, very balanced + punchy bass

Hmm, that's what I'm thinking on buying, the PX200-ii for portable use, but what about home use? Can you guys think of any good headphones to buy for home use? Pretty good bass and great with the high, mids and lows? I'm thinking on buying the Sennheiser HD448 (595 is too expensive) and the ATH-M50.

Any other suggestions?

I have the PX200-ii, and the Klipsch Image S4s for portable
m50s on the way, for home

anyways, for home I think if you want more bass without loosing much detail, go for m50
otherwise, if you want a more balanced sound go for HD448

I've also owned the HD428, which are very similar to the HD448s, and didnt like them much, mainly because of the lack of bass :)
thats just me

Hmm. Now I'm in a dilemma between the PX200-II and the AKG K430/K450, but I'll make another thread for that.

What if I amp the HD448 with a FiiO E5? That might do something  But I guess I'll go with the ATH-M50 for more bass :)

Right now I'm more focused on the choice of the portable headphones unlike the home headphones.
