Hi I currently have a set of the original HiFiMAN HE400s (or possibly the 2nd version with amended drivers?).
I would like a new set, probably planar again as I like the detail and probably open again as I like the sound.

The problem is my budget is limited to <$£500 or so. I like the sound of the HE400s and generally prefer slightly darker sounding than brighter.

However, is there anything that would be noticeably better/different with spending a similar amount as what I paid 10+years ago? Have things improved to warrant an expected upgrade.

Would the Fiio FT5 or FT1 pro be a worthwhile purchase? Anything else?

Thanks

I've got the original he400se and several other Hifiman models. An upgrade you'll notice is the Edition XS with a Fosi Audio DS2 DAC/Amp and Youkamoo 4.4mm balanced cables for it.
They work great together and very affordable. The DS2 can work on your phone or computer with a 3ft cable to place it better.
