As my first post ever on Head-Fi, I'd like to start by saying that if it weren't for this place, I probably wouldn't have dropped $200 on another pair of headphones. But obsessive impulsiveness coupled with people who share the same (if not a significantly greater) craving for good audio led me to purchase a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-A900s.
My first real pair of headphones were the Koss UR-40s. I got bored of those, and bought a pair of Bose Triports. Those were great, until I stepped on them. I then proceeded to get a pair of Pioneer HDJ-1000s, which I still have today. Sure, they can get extremely loud (3W power handling) and have great sound clarity and super-tight bass, but are just not that exciting, and hurt my ears after about 30 minutes of listening.
So, I bought the A900s! Hopefully this was a good choice. They were shipped early this morning from Japan, and should be here by the end of the week.
I listen to a wide variety of music, from Infected Mushroom to John Mayer to Flamenco to Akon, Muse, Third Eye Blind, etc. I will mainly be listening to (and making) music with these most of the time.
And probably a lot of the time. I am damn excited about these things. I'll probably be listening to music in my apartment A LOT. Hell, I'm gonna wear them around UCSD for at least the first week enjoying how much of a dork I look like. And it will be awesome.
Head-Fi, thanks for becoming a new distraction. I'll painfully continue to listen to my Pioneers for a couple more days.

Congratulations! I own the open AD900s myself, which don't sound anything like the closed A900s, but I can say that Audio-Technica makes darn fine headphones. Enjoy! (But you will.)

Sorry for bumping an old thread... So did you end up wearing them around campus? I didn't see anyone with a900's walking around
