Ok... need know where to start. I have bought many $50 or so budget choices but I really need to know what I need to really start this addiction. I have been a musician since the 70's and I think i have a bit of a trained ear.. but would love to know where i should start... i don't want to have my wife divorce me but ... i do have a few bucks to spend. I did purchase a FiiO 10k and own a Lepai 2020A+ but i do know there are better choices out there. Just looking to get into the game but not win it :)

Hello and welcome to Head-fi!
For headphones we need to know how you will be using them. Are they for on-the-go or for home use? Are there comfort concerns? What is your preference in sound signeture? What is your budget? All these things help us give you better advice.

Hi Beyakusenn,

Yea i guess it would have been more helpful if i gave a little more info. These will be for home/office use. My budget will be around $200us give or take a few bucks to start.I listen to a wide range of music. Anywhere from Classical to all types of Rap, Metal, Rock, Blues,Pop, Funk and Jazz any whatever else I am into at the moment. I am sure we all say this at one time or another but I have been a sound chaser for many years when it comes to guitar and recording equipment. So i hope to not fall too deep, since i have a tendency to want everything :)

Well, let me say in advance: sorry for your wallet. Here at Head-fi that is a common thing to say.
For your current budget you would be looking at the Sennheiser HD598, the Audio Technica ATH-AD900X, the AKG K7XX (you'd need to wait for it to appear again on Massdrop), the Beyerdynamic DT880, Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro or maybe second hand headphones.

If sound leakage to your environment is an issue (office use), you might want to look into closed headphones instead.

Out of the headphones above, what you like really depends on personal preference. These are all good headphones! If you have the possibility to audition some of them at a store, you should do that.
