Well I happen to also own an incredible sounding SG Special, and they both shine in their different ways.

In regards to the hardtail/floating discussion, it has to be floating, since it has a whammy bar, correct?

I do have a question for anyone who knows the answer: When I use the whammy bar, the bridge gives a sort of creaking noise when pushed past a certain spot. Is this bad?

my MIM strat is a floating bridge, but i used a piece of wood from an old cigar box and two guitar picks to make it a hardtail

Nice Fat Strat. I have one and it was MIM as well.

The quality was so good I couldn't imagine paying more for an American made.
