Hey ya people, i've been reseaching on the net about headphones and i never realised how big of a comunity it is.

Story goes as such, 3 years ago got some phillips hp890 i think there called
i got sucked in buy a harvey norman sales guy saying there good which they are but starting to get a finer ear and not really doing the job for me anymore plus the plastic supporting the right arm is stuffed and breaking to bits. Tried fixing once but just doing the same so off to buy a new pair.

As i have been delving into the fourms it aint that easy to make my mind up now. there just is such a wide arry of suggestions and choices.

Price i'm looking at is around $150 AUD, 200 if there something really gonna blow my socks off. so thats around 100 to 150 USD.

I've been to www.headphones.com.au and they have a beautiful selection of cans.

From what i read form this site and suggestions this is what i come to,

Audio Technica: ATH-A500
Alessandro: MS-1
Beyerdynamic: DTX900
Sennheiser: HD555

Or come any other suggestions welcome.

Please remember these are 80% gaming and 20% music vids.

Thankyou for your time, and please help.................

I've got a pair of HD-555's and they're quite good for playing. Although I haven't got any experience with the other cans you mentioned, the 555's are damn comfortable and even long playing sessions shouldn't cause any aches, plus they fit my music preferences nicely (metal, psychedelic).
They are 50ohm phones so you won't need an amplifier to drive 'em, which is nice too.
Only minus, in some cases, is that they are open so you can hear plenty of background noises.

I think from reading every gaming thread that has ever existed I can tell you that lots of recommendations are going to come in for the a500s. Do a bit of forum searching as this comes up a LOT. Right in your price range too. The universal opinions seems to be that the a900s take the cake for gaming at $200, and the a500s are a close second. I use a set of amped HD 580s, or SR225s when I'm in the mood for some more slam, but both of these are out of your price range, and require amplification. I wouldn't get the MS1s as they are not comfy enough for extended gaming (basing this off my SR225 experience). Never heard the other 2 you mentioned.

Good luck,

Target
