Since a few days I am the proud owner of the Etymotic ER-4P and I am very happy with it. After some experimenting I now have a good seal with the black foam eartips and the sound (including bass) is really great !
But now my question: I noticed that when looking at the earpieces against a strong light there is a tiny little room between the black tubes and the blue or red plastic pieces that connect the cable to them. You can also see the pins that are plugged(?) in the black tube. Like I said you only can see it when looking against light. Normally it seems that the two pieces are almost one.
Is this "normal" ? Having read somewhere that the Ety's are rather vulnerable I am a little worried.

Yes this normal as long as they feel tight. I see a slightly bigger gap in one earpiece than the other. When removing the headphones, you should grap from the black part and not the red or blue part.

I've had mine for about a year and half and have had no problem even though I do sometime accidently pull from the colored part. At one mini meet, I was removing another hi-fier etys and the driver stayed in my ear. He said that happened sometimes but I don't know how long he's had them and how he'd cared for them. The driver just stapped back into the plug and worked fine.

Thanks iamdone. They are tight, so I have nothing to worry about.

My etys have that too--have had them over 1 yr. with no problems.
