Hello! After getting the Magni 3, im after a Schiit Dac so finish the stack, currently im using Fiio E10k as a DAC.

So the choice stands between the Modi 2 Uber and Modi Multibit, so I wonder if the extra cost for the Multibit is worth it? I will mostly be using Tidal Hifi along with a pair of DT 880 250ohm.

I like the Schiit Multibit sound. Modi Multibit is just a taste in Schiit's line up. There are always other companies offering a different taste in sound that is equally good or better too like Chord.

Modi 2 Uber is the same chip as Modi 2, just with more inputs, I think. I've heard the Multibit is a much better investment across the board

Modi Multibit for the win! (But you'll get a bigger improvement by getting better headphones.)

Yes, new headphones will be the next step, and prob final step for a good while, prob around end of this year.

Anyway, deiced to get the Modi 2 uber, cost 120 euro less after all, and im still a beginner in this field.

Do you need the optical input? Because the Modi 2 and Modi 2 Uber are the same exact DAC just with different inputs. If you don't need the extra inputs then the Uber is somewhat of a waste of money

I disagree. The wall wart from Modi 2 Uber frees the DAC from the USB power + noise performance of the source unlike the Modi. Even with Wyrd, to me subjectively, a separate VAC power source from outside is better than using the power from the Wyrd's USB out.

ARRG! I keep forgetting the Modi 2 is usb powered. Rest in peace, me

You can get the Eitr too to clean up the USB signal, however Schiit is building their own chipset implementation, but it likely won't be ready for a year or so.

IMO, based on research and specs, the Mimby (modi multibit) is likely the most DAC you'll need until you're using US$1,000+ headphones and a great amp and/or amps, get into tube rolling, etc. especially given you already have the Jot.

If I was going to get a desktop DAC and didn't have one, I think the extra few bucks is definitely worth it for the Mimby, as otherwise you'll just upgrade to it quickly, and it's a relatively small cost to do now. A mimby / Magni 3 is US$348, which is more than reasonable for most all headphones until you want to get into sound rolling / customizing with top tier headphones and "educated ears".
