I have a four year old machine running a first generation Audigy card. I will build a new machine in the next few months when the Intel Conroes become available. I will be using music playback and DVD surround sound. I don't do sound recording or anything like that, but I want the best sound playback possible.

What's the best sound cards available right now? X-Fi? M-Audio? Other?

I can't recommed EMU's, at least not 0404. M-Audio/Delta cards are generally bright/analytical and are also recording oriented.

This one is getting a lot of rave - it's having probably the best intergated DAC, socketed opapms for headphone amplifier. I have no idea how to get one in US though...

I'm not familiar with EMU's products. That Korean card looks interesting. I could get one of my friends in Korea to send me one.

Any thoughts on the lastest Creative cards? The X-Fi?

I'm suprised noone has an opinion on this.

I love my E-MU 1212. It's more analytical than the 0404 and has plenty of hookup options.

Use search. It's an overkill in a way - AK4396 (not 95) DAC, and socketed OPA2134 on the output - you could simply replace them with what you like (OPA627,AD8620 etc). I can't ask for more from a SC.

I'm intertested if there's a way to get one in US

For anyone else thats looking. I searched on "Korean Sound Card" ? and found one thread...
http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showt...ean+Sound+Card.

Not enough info on it yet to decided it its worth getting instead of some of the other more popular cards. I know someone whos in Korea a lot on business, I wonder whats the availability is like.

I had been expecting this card to get a bit more attention - how much does it cost in Korea? (in USD)

One option to check out is the ESI-Juli@. This one can be had for approx 130 shipped. It's headphone out is weak maybe requiring a headamp but it has great digital performance for use with a DAC. Check my sig. below.

Since you're doing surround sound, etc, and no recording, I think an M-Audio Revolution would suit you. Either that, or one of the Chaintehch AV510 variants. According to many on this board, they sound fantastic to boot. Search on the board for the Revo or Chaintech and you'll find hundred of posts. Both cards are easy to obtain as well.

Otherwise, 2 channel audio, I love my 1212M.

Do you play games? If so, then the elite pro would be where it is at for you. The dacs on the board are nice. I noticed you are using UE10's, low impedance IEMs- are you planning on these being your main cans or are you looking for full size? If its the former then you would be all set- no need for an additional amp with the card.

Disclaimer: this is my biased opinion, as I have the card for sale, but if other XFI owners feel the same way let him know
