Yeah. Even though UE may have access to customised, non-standard specification Knowles armatures, they still charge a massive premium for what is really quite a cheap item. Oh well, the huge price price tag comes with superior brand recognition, customisation and customer pride.

Hmmm, their customisation options don't look too broad, and from the look of the images, the cables do not detach from the IEM's.

Will be very interesting to see what they sound like. If the news is good there might be a new contender for my graduation present to myself this summer

Yeah, until you listen to them.

I just got off the phone with the company that manufactures the Freqs. The owner is off for the holidays but they gave me his email to ask about whether the cable is detachable or not. The lady I spoke with said she believes it does detach from the IEM.

When you order a set of Freqs they send you a fit kit with a compound to make your own impressions (it's a 2 part compound that you mix, and they give you 2 'doses' in case you mess up the first). Or you can go to a hearing aid center and get impressions for $25. They are originally a hearing aid company, and so they are partnered with these hearing aid places.

I'll let you guys know what kind of response I get from the owner.

It all looks great apart from one thing: the cable. It looks very much like the iBud one and a pretty frail one at that.
