I think that plug IS gold. Unless my eyesight is failing. Actually it's kinda hard to tell...

I liked the blue. Had more personality... greys' boring.

Cardas uses rhodium plated plugs.

I don't know, it still looks smurf to me, with just different lighting.

it's different from the original... the new cable is thicker and softer. ...i doubt the plug is rhodium, but i could be wrong. i exchanged my old one for the newer one when it was using the switchcraft still, but same cable. The end plugs are larger and more like stock now. the new new ones have a cardas 1/4" plug that you see in the picture, and i got a close look at it at CES.... the plug looks like the same nickel coating they use on most 1/4" plugs. but again, i could be wrong.

i think they began shipping the thicker cables a couple months ago actually (i got my exchange like 1-2 months ago, and i've seen these even earlier)

Does that mean it is more flexible? I've been considering getting the Cardas cable, but was concerned about ergomonics.

How does it sound in comparison to the original?

....it's about the same flexibility, but it's kinda bulkier feeling. not really heavier... but just feels bigger.

sound?--i think they use the same wires (still 4 conductor golden ration stuff)... maybe the rubber jacket is thicker and softer. but i can't hear a difference between the cardas and stock.... so i really can't hear a difference between the old and new cardas.

it's kinda cool at CES... they had a board up on the wall with small sections of all their cables cross-cut, so you can see how each was made. nothing too impressive in my opinion though--looking at those thousand dollar reference cables, you just realize, "hey, it's just a bunch of fancy plastics and copper."

if you guys didn't realize, the original picture posted was a snap-shot of the display unit on the shelf at CES.

but they replacement they sent me was not as well made as my older version.... for instance, the section that goes into the headphone plugs was scratched up. the heatshrink was applied unevenly... and the section where the cable split was not as clean. maybe they figured i was getting a new cable for free, so they didn't care how good the one i got was...

I actually like my Smurf cable better! Smurfs are now collectors item

Grey and tan cable, can we possibly be any more boring or generic, looks good on your beige carpet I guess.

uh, that looks exactly the same to me. i think it's just a bad picture. on this ****ty lcd monitor i have at work, it looks like the blue and grey and the jack looks the same color as the one in kr's picture (appears gold, but is actually more silver).

I still don't get what the big deal is, I have the "older" cable and have never had any problem with it, and you guys should stop rippin on the smurf cable - that's racist!
