New Cheap tube amp from ASL?

I haven't heard it but it looks like it has a separately cased power supply, solid state rectification, a solid state driver stage, and EL84 pentodes wired up in triode mode output tubes.

it's only for low impedance amps. joe offered it to me instead of the OTL-H before. it's a "buffer." not really an amplifier. you need a preamp to use it, as it does not amplify... only allows your preamp to power the headphone. at least that's what i understand.

my advice..... if you only had $250 to spend.... this amp won't do it for you. it's just a gadget.

Might be interesting to plug it into a bottlehead and see what happens...

I really wish Divertech would put more info on their site.

If you have 250 to spend, why not get a used MG Head OTL? They seem to sell for around 200. You might still have enough left for 1 decent tube. Of course taht's only the beginning... Muwahahahha

well, if you still really want an asl amp..... i'm gonna probably put up my special edition OTL-H with upgraded power supply and all that jazz for around $250-300. it was Joe's attempt to kiss ass a while ago... and he sent me a special one after they screwed up my first one (yes... he screwed up his gift too.) anyway, Carlo is looking at it right now.... if it comes back in perfect operational condition, i'll probably want to sell it, as i have no use for it. it is the only one in existance--upgraded power supply, alps pot, upgraded other stuff, and an overall beefier power supply with phase switch so that the otl-h can play without distortion problems (all the others had this problem... you can read about it if you search.)

well... i dunno, maybe i'll keep it. probably not.... if i get any good offers especially.

I had inquired with Joe Lau about this amp, and he states it is indeed a headphone amp, suited for low impedance headphones. I believe those are EL34s in there...

Conflicting reports and lack of information may make this a hard sell...

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to try it, just wish I knew more about it...

Definitely EL84’s. Like the MG Head OTL.

Sorry, you're correct. I couldn't remember if they were 34s or 84s... (I had a real quick conversation with Tash at Divergent, was in the middle of something, so I didn't get too much out of him).

Dean, don't get me wrong, I'm not disputing your post. I just find the lack of info (and conflicting info) frustrating. It doesn't encourage one to plunk down their hard earned cash...

It’s really a shame since the MG Head is such a great amp for the money. Like the ad on the Divergent site.

Frequency responsible at 1V 15Hz to 100K -1 db
Frequency responsible at full power 15Hz to 100K -1db

They could at least get some one who speaks English to proof read the ad? Just a pet peeve I guess. But to miss out on sales because of simple execution and not technical issues just bites.

TimSchirmer is probably rubbing the numbers off his credit card eager to buy but without sufficient information he’s holding back.

Not just a pet peeve... misspelling ad copy's one thing... like "hybbrid"... but it appears to be actually misspelled on the amp itself as "HB-1 Hybird Headphone Amplifier"...
