New: Burson Audio Play Amp/DAC (2W@16Ohm) (op-amp rollers dream)
Oct 5, 2019 at 9:23 PM Post #1,217 of 1,256
Guys I currently run USB to my Play for headphone listening. For my loudspeaker setup I run an HDMI from my Pc to an Onkyo A/V receiver. Do you guys think there are SQ improvements to be had by running USB to the Play and then analog out to the A/V receiver? Surely the DAC in my Play is better than the DAC in my integrated A/V receiver....what do you all think? Worth the trouble? Would be easy enough to just try but I just wanted an opinion or two first. Thanks.

Only you could determine this and it depends on your system and preferences. Though, likely the Burson will sound better on DAC duty than the Onkyo. You just running a 2CH setup? The Burson only supports this.

It's 2.2 for music listening, is that OK?

To clarify, is it NOT ok for 2.2 listening LOL. Got snap, crackle pop when trying. But damn it really made my towers sing in full range mode when doing 2.0. That was the first time I'd ever heard them doing full range duty and they were quite impressive. But alas, it seems the Play is best left to table side headphone duties.

I'd agree, it's great for what it is. For 2.2 I recommend the Topping D70. The SU-8 works as well. I run SE split to the woofers and BAL to my power amp pass filtered.

But both devices are 2.0, so not sure I understand the advantage of the D70 given the 2.0 vs. 2.2 setup? Or perhaps I am missing something?

I do have a 2.2 setup as well in my living room composed by one stereo amplifier connected to 2 passive speakers and from amplifier's high-pass filter (SUB RCA-out) I use a slitter to connect 2 subwoofer. So, in the end this is my understanding of a 2.2 setup and the stereo DAC I'm using is stereo, no matter I use PLAY or PLAYMATE etc.

So why PLAY may not be OK for a 2.2 system?

Hello!

I had before Burson Play and I had the exact same problem, tho with I had Windows 10 Pro 64bit. Try to upgrade your Windows 10 to 1909 version, and let the WIndows to search a driver for it. For me this worked well under 1803 and 1809 versions.
