New Beyerdynamic T1 (2nd Generation)

Some very cool setups with T1.2s in this thread.

I'm looking for a good amp for mine. Are Lehmann Black Cube Linear, Burson Conductor and Woo WA3 all good choices with T1.2s? Anyone here compared any of those and/or have other suggestions that can also be used as a pre?
The Burson Conductor 3, Focal Arche and Fidelice all work well with the Beyerdynamic T1 Gen. 2

What headband wrapper are you using on these? Do they help with better weight distribution?
Sorry for the late reply, I somehow never saw your question! I use these on all my headphones, unfortunately I forget which size I have on them but they do hold up well, keep my headbands in good shape, and definitely reduce hot spots.

Can I use earpads for the DT770s on the T1.2s? Thanks
They will definitely fit, physically. Can’t help on how they’d sound though.

Thanks.

your answer can apply to any 3rd party replacement pads

There are lots of options for 3rd party pads. Look for beyerdynamic specific pads if you want to experiment

If I may ask, are there any particular reasons why?
The T1.2 has a really nice airy sound that works perfectly with the stock pads. The T1 is a little unique in that there is nothing between your ears and the drivers and the drivers are angled. Most third party pads have a built-in driver cover and a significant amount of cushioning that disrupt the position of the drivers and can occlude the space between them and your ears. Even perforated pads will cause the T1's sound to go murky. The DT770's stock pads are similar to the T1's so if you stick with Beyer stock pads, you might get a light enough touch that it won't throw off the character of the T1.2. At the very least, only consider velour pads as replacements. Just my 2 cents from rolling 3 kinds of pads and going right back to the stock pads each time.

Seeing how folks roll pads on their Beyers I thought that the stock ones have to go, so your post puts some extra light on the matter. Thanks :beerchug:

Yeah pad rolling on the T1 and T5 is tricky due to the steep angled drivers. Most people seem to keep the stock pads on the T1’s and T5’s based on my observations. They usually need to have a similar shape and design to work ideally imho.

Aftermarket pads worked fine on the Amiron Home/DT 1990, etc. but I did not like them on the T1.2 or T1.3. The difference between the T1.2 and T1.3 pads for instance is the foam inside mostly creating a different sound that didn’t mess-up their imaging, etc. The DT 1990 Balanced pads will also likely work but haven’t tried them. DT 1990 Analytical pads may work but they have much softer foam and different rear venting. Same with the Amiron Hone pads having different shape and rear-venting. They may work but maybe not as well. The DT 880/990 Black edition pads may work too as those pads are T1-like in design/foam stiffness unlike normal DT 880/990 pads.

Thanks, that's a lot of useful info. It's also quite surprising that several years ago headphone pads in general got nowhere near as much traction as they do now. After reading your posts it's tempting to get into the Beyer club again!

No problem, always been a bit of a Beyer fan; something about how they portrayed sound always sat right with me and I always want to have at least one Beyer. I have yet to try the new DT 700/900 Pro X’s with their new pads, drivers, etc. But I’m always up to exploring Beyers I haven’t heard before whether new or old. Definitely, the headphone pad market has really grown and there is more options than ever it seems. This hobby has changed a lot since I first joined it over 10 years ago.
