I have the old Beyerdynamic DT 990 (modded) and the old DT 880. Both are the old 600 ohm version, and I have grey velour earpads on both of them.

As a headphone amp, I have a Amity HPA 2

Now I am trying to decide, if I should go with a new headphone amp, the MG HEAD OTL, since I prefer tubes, or get a new Beyerdynamic DT 880?

Can't afford both at the same time.

So what would you suggest in buying first?

Thanks

For greater instant gratification go for the new DT 880! The new headphone makes more of a difference than the new amp. I don't know the Amity, but the label has got quite favorable tests in the German magazines, although one must say they don't have much experience with headphone amps. (E.g. I couldn't stand the bass emphasis on the new Amitiy models.) Nevertheless I assume your amp is not too bad. You'll enjoy the new DT 880. Save you'll regret not to have waited for the HD 650...
