New Beyer DT1350

I personally would not count on a cheaper headphone amp on making a tremendous difference. Most of the differences in Home amps are because of their design, stability, and headroom. Tiny headphones amps are often cheaply made and cheaply designed and sold at a fairly high price. BUT I think any little bit helps. I am not familiar with that design and have no idea how it would drive an 80 ohm pair.

I still think the more likely reason is that a bass head is just expecting more bass. No matter how much you press the cups against your ears, you won't get warm powerful bass. I like it exactly for the reason that it does not have boomy over powerful bass... And a lot of other reasons as well.

They simply are NOT as sensitive to positioning as you lead people to think, with all due respect.

I'm already used to the bass of DT 1350 and actually my preference of bass. But it can sound thin to me if the cups are not in my sweet spot. Like I've said, you're maybe one of the lucky ones that doesn't have to play around with the fit, I have a friend like that as well. Some ears (actually most ears) require the cups to be in the very sweet spot for it to sound its best. But of course I agree that some people, even the cups are already in their sweet spot, may hear the 1350's bass lacking due to expecting more bass. But that doesn't make the sensitivity to positioning less true.

Also even how hard you press the cups to your ears, if it wasn't in the right spot, you would just be pressing it in the wrong place, thus won't make a noticeable good improvement to the sound especially the bass. I did try that pressing the cups to ears solution and didn't actually worked for me. See the problem is not the clamping force, it's already tight for me. The critical is the position or surface of your ear where you actually let the pads rest. And maybe the break-in of the pads to the shape of your ears as well. But I agree that they are not as sensitive to positioning to SOME people as I and many others experience with them.

I haven't been on the thread in awhile and I seem to have missed quite a bit. I could only do some quick skimming, I'm about to run out of the door.

@Focker
To answer your question about amping, I'm a mobile amp guy and amps to me makes a nice difference with my DT1350 as well as my other gear. I use the Leckerton UHA-4 and the ALO RX MKII both with gain set on high. I find my Beyer sounds it's best when I throw more juice at it. The Leckerton amp has a AD8510 op amp and when I pair it the DT1350 it sounds a touch warmer and the mids and highs sound cleaner then unamped. When I use the ALO amp the sound becomes smoother and the lower frequencies punch harder all the while sounding cleaner in the low frequencies then the Leckerton, your mileage may vary though. If you really like your DT1350 I suggest you do a little mobile amp experimenting. Personally, I think the Leckerton amp is a great buy for the money. It's impressed me enough that I plan on buying it's big brother the UHA-6A MK II in a few months. The UHA-6A supposedly has a more capable and cleaner amp section and is op amp rollable. The ALO is more expensive but because it's so smooth my gear seems to sound more musical if that makes any sense. You really can't go wrong with either amp.

Thanks for the feedback, DigFreak....those ALO amps are really nice! Definitely on my short list for when I go with a nicer portable amp. Some really intriguing options out there. I'm definitely become more comfortable saying that they will benefit from better quality current after spending more time driving them with the Meier today...there were a few tracks where I honestly couldnt not imagine why ANYONE would possibly want MORE bass than what I was hearing...holy hell it was intense lol.

Good stuff.  I'm currently rockin' some New Order, for my continued listening pleasure.

Hey Focker, You and I seem to have the same taste. I would highly recommend the UHA 6S MKii. Pair it with the DT1350 and its butter

I am also wondering about the Amperior and wondering how it can sound more neutral and natural and easily dismiss the DT1350. If I can find a pair to listen to around here, I will try them out and let you know. Honestly, I would rather listen to the 1350 than the Senn HD650 and 600. I'm not saying they don't bring better things to the table in certain areas, but compared to the 1350s, they are veiled and non engaging.

Sooo, here's hoping I can try the Amperiors since there seems to be a lack of 1350 - Amperior comparison, at least from people that have my preference in regards to the 1350.

Thanks for the rec! Will defintely check it out.

I've noticed that there aren't many comparisons of these two headphones either...I guess it's due to the Amperiors being in limited release for the time being, I dunno. I was really interested in them after seeing Tyll's comments, but then a head-fi'er posted a video from CES (I think it was CES) by one of Sennheiser's own reps who said that the goal for the Amperiors was for them to sound *identical* to the HD25, but with better build quality/durability and to be easier to drive. After I saw that I was pretty much resigned to just getting a lady friend a pair of HD25s since she needs/wants a pair of good portables and since that would give me the chance to get an idea as to what the Amperiors would sound like. That's the point I'm still at currently, but I'm sure at some point over the next few months I'll pick up a pair.

I have absolutely no desire to upgrade/replace my 1350s, though....they do pretty much exactly what I want them to do. And like you, I will reach for them over some of my higher end headphones from time to time...they are just great little portables

Orbiting Cow - a classic song from a classic album. Listened to it all the way through today!

DF - Why thank ya... thank ya very much. Kinda want to pick up another HD25 to compare side by side.

Desmoface - Love New Order. Blue Monday and Bizarre Love Triangle are my favorites.

I've been listening to some of those Smiths remasters. Never really heard much from them but I love a couple of their cds. Haven't really gotten through it all yet. These remasters really help some of their work imo.

And yeah Black Celebration is my favorite album of Depeche Mode. What a classic.

Ahh..huge Smiffs/Moz fan...I love some of the Peel sessions stuff the Smiths did. Love just about everything they/he has done.
