Hi, i was just wondering if anyone out there have heard the new beyer cans? ( eg. DT 440 Premium, DT 660 Premium, DT 860 Premium) How do they compare to the older beyers? Does the DT440 sound like the 531s ( Seeing that the 531s are almost impossible to find these days .....) TIA!

I'm fairly fond of the DT440. To me, it seems less comfy than the DT531 - but sonically it seems a tad better to my ears due to a more pronounced (upper) midrange. I also like it better than the Sennheiser HD 595, which seems less extended in the bass and somewhat grainy in the mids. Another plus of the DT440 is its high efficiency - so ampless portable use is not much of a problem. I haven't heard the DT660 and DT860 yet - but according to Jan these should sound somewhat similar to the DT831 and DT931, which I wasn't too fond of due to their relatively bright and very lean presentation.

Greetings from Hannover!

I didn't think they were bright when driven from 120 Ohm. Sonically, they were similar to my DT531 but had a more natural soundstage, better texture, a tad better attack and felt more airy. I'd buy them if I wanted a new headphone

but don't forget to order the Oehlbach 120 Ohm adaptor with them.

An amp such as the Perreaux will naturalize the dt531's soundstage nicely! While I'm digging the sound more of the dt531's and total bithead, there's no denying the dt531's are hard to drive.

Having said that, I haven't heard the new Beyer lineup.

I'm mildly interested in the new Beyers as well. I briefly got the chance to audition the 880, and really enjoyed it. Close to the Sennheiser HD 650, but for me the Senns won out in the end. Still, it was a pleasent surprise, and this was only based off of very brief a/bing.

Actually the current DT880 is a new design, only inheriting the name of the original DT 880 (from 1985).

DT770 and DT990 are in fact "redesigned" versions of DT770Pro and DT990Pro. The redesign touched on looks, clamping force and the headband. Sonically they should be the same (redesign in 2002).
