i picked up this CD tonight and, although i don't think it's the masterpiece rolling stone says it is, it is very good. the album is consistent. too consistent, IMO. the songs do drag on a bit. it's a lot different from odelay that's for sure!

about the sonics: the mastering engineer, bob ludwig, should be congratulated. the sound is VERY good (read: not overcompressed!). on my beyer DT 770s, the kick drum is very deep and punchy. of course, without the DT 770, you won't be able to hear it with your headphones.

Did anybody notice this album is HDCD encoded?

It's not documented anywhere in the cover but the HDCD light lit up in my Music Hall CD player.
