NEW Bang & Olufsen Beoplay H95 ANC Headphones - Reviews & Impressions
Sep 23, 2024 at 4:01 PM Post #2,131 of 2,147
They arrived today! First impressions:

- Using with iPhone 15 Pro, for me, the volume needs to be 90/100%… so it’s not that loud I guess.

- I noticed the ring for the ANC it’s not as firm as the volume ring (do I need to ask for RMA for this?)

- The materials are really premium, tomorrow I will test listening for 2hr straight

Oh lord... I thought after the H95 (and their wobbly, inconsistent, rings) they'd have learnt how to get the dials right, consistently.

No offence, but both Microsoft and Plantronics had headphones with dials which had zero tolerance issues whatsoever, and that was in 2018 and 2014, for headphones retailing respectively for $350 and $250 (Surface Headphones and BackBeat Pro, for who's curious).

I hope your unit is a one off, because at $1550 that's not acceptable.

I got mine yesterday and I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep them both.

A few little things that bothered me about the H95 have been improved. But there are also things that have been downgraded.

Improvements:

- far far far better ANC - maybe even the best I ever had on an headphone.
- get much louder on iOS
- it’s 50g heavier but it feels lighter in the head
- very comfy headband this time
- SQ is much improved I hear things I didn’t notice before - even on electronic music
- the included leather sleeve has a much better zipper than the last optionally available one

Downgrades:

- not foldable anymore 😢
- the earcup cushion are not as deep and firm
- less clamping force
- subbass not (yet?) as deep as the H95*
- no more aluminum case for home/long storage

I was talking about the H95… this is the H95 topic I guess :)

I originally bought the black ones but I really wanted the chestnut ones…

Last week I ordered again for 519€ and it will arrive this week. Let’s see if this ones have better rings otherwise I will use the warranty from bang & olufsen.

Other question, which Bluetooth adapter it’s better? The sennheiser BTD-600 or the Creative BT-W5? I want to use it on Windows PC and iPhone

If you care about calls, then avoid BT-W5 because I have had issues with two units sometimes not switching to HFP mode. Otherwise, perhaps BT-W5 is better for use with phone, no need to add A-to-C adapter like with BTD 600.

I’m talking about the H100 - the H95 I have since late 2021….. although it’s not my original pair - I had them twice serviced - therefore exchanged by B&O and then I sold it (grey mist) to a colleague to get myself a black one 😇….

Well, I’ve been testing this week the BT-W5 with my iPhone and with Microsoft computer from my work.

On my iPhone it works great, even switching to HFP mode automatically when I receive phone calls.

On windows computer, the history it’s different… sometimes I get crack/buzzing sounds and with 1 meeting it didn’t switch to HFP mode… the first thing I did was to install Creative software and update the BT-W5 firmware

Yes, my comment was based exactly on Windows laptop experience having a few calls every day. The worst part of "not switching" is that I couldn't rely on the dongle, especially when receiving ad-hoc calls that require immediate involvement into the conversation.
I had heavy static noise issues as well, but I'm pretty sure they were caused by specific laptop, which couldn't handle USB audio properly from a dock station (two different ones, in fact).

Would you guys say that the h95 is a good buy in 2024? They are on sale for about 750 usd. So in between the IO-12 and Px8 that I am currently testing. I have a decent home office setup, so these would be for commuting and travel, but also using wirelessly at home fairly often. Primarily music + video consumption, but calling is also important. Even though I love the io-12 for both sound quality and comfort, the call interface is terrible. And the carrying case is enormous so, I am leaning towards the Px8. Maybe you @angelom can way in? I believe you have testet most of the available BT headphones. Any input on the ANC of the h95 vs Px8?

Anc of the H95 is worse than px8

That is a shame, I saw a couple of direct comparisons on YT that stated the opposite, rtings states the same, but things may have changed with firmware updates etc… 🤷‍♂️
Probably depends on the shape of your head. But I used the h95 before and the anc is kinda bad, the px8 have more grips on my head and the anc is like the xm3 or 4

I have never had a pair of BT headphones that didn't seem wonky in terms of calls, at least in terms of picking up the call. Since that is so fundamental, I just roll with the AirPods (of whatever variety), which connect seamless and have great ANC.

For me, the only reason to buy an expensive set of BT headphones is audio quality of music and ANC to a lesser degree.

If you're looking for stable phone calls, and high-quality ANC, it's hard to imagine how an older product such as the H95 would add much value.

I also can't imagine that the ANC is on par with the PX8, which is outstanding.

If you find that the Px8 can be stable and effective for phone calls, that sounds like the best bet. But of course, the sound quality for music will, in the eyes of many, be just okay.

The H100 seems to offer everything you seek. For me, the cost, while hard to digest, becomes less so for me because it feels like there are zero trade offs.

I love the sound of the IO-12s, but as you note, portability is basically zero.

Thanks for the reply, I did actually order the H100 and got them the other day. And as you point out, they offer everything I seek (I just need to be sure about the comfort...). I did also post an update over at the h100 thread about my impressions so far :D
