Intried

From 88k to dsd and the other way around, i heard no pop while it was rather loud before, i am satisfied with this update. From 44k to dsd, the pop might be audible, would have to try it, but i upsample everything to 88/96.
Yeah, using Pinkfaun, all of my DSD is to be 174.2 and the rest is to be 192k. Can’t hear pops or clicks, it only happens with usb

Oh, about the popping noise. I have 0 popping noise since I am using my I2S ? Also, Jriver is so good! I upsample 44.1 into 192khz

about 2mo ago I started doing the same as Whitigir.

For years I had the upsampling configured for exact multiples (44/88/352 => 172 and 48/96/386 => 192) but sending everything to 192 easily solved the popping.
My Dirac software only goes up to 192 so downsampling the higher rates is something I need to do.

are you serious? i2s is supposed to be the unlimited bandwidth alternative to spdif (quad dsd and such). This would only be fine for me because of Dirac, but I'm going to retract this recommendation from friends

DSD will still be dissected into DOP and then these Multibit streams will joins at the DAC to go directly into the capacitors array. This skips the processing of DAC. Using this, the manufacturers can market it to be Native DSD, but in fact it is DOP.

All DAC uses I2S languages, and as Multibit, it has to be DOP which is essentially PCM.

Anyways, I careless about the format. Just as long as it sound good. USB so far suck really bad in comparison to I2S limited at 192khz. Different folks, different boats :)

I find that upsampling to any rate with 24 bit depth is good enough with the r2r 7. It seems the 24 bit makes most of the difference. But i use a usb interface. Having the usb work at 384kz can degrade the sound in itself. A direct i2s connection will not cause any additonal noise in the dac, besides the reclocking circuit receiving more data. The dsp, on the other end, will work less hard. So it seems to me direct i2s is the most optimal setup, provided your connection is optimal.

I totally agree, and my ears also do agree with this

Anyway, Kingwa's fix is very effective if ever you decide to apply it.

the SU1 did 384 over i2s, so why not the pink faun? While this may be fine for someone using a ladder dac, I wouldn't recommend to my friend upsampling to DSD with HQ [w/ Roon + psaudio direct stream]
Pinkfaun is limited to 192k is caused by the chip that they are using inside for the processing interface

@FredA Is there two Xilinx parts per channel for a total of four (2 DA modules x 2 channels = 4 Xilinx parts) programming sessions required for the upgrade? Repeating the same image for each of the four DA modules makes sense... Thanks again!

Kingwa just states "The R2R7 had built in two modules, they want to update the firmware one by one."
