Sorry about the confusion, from what I know the k240s use the same drivers as the k245, just closed/open back versions. Correction- mids are near perfect. Bass drops off below 120hz, which I've found to be accurate. I usually drop the eq below 120 and it sounds much better. Some peaky highs, I have little doubt that part of it is from bouncing around in the shell, people here have found success by muffling it a bit and limiting some of those reflections.

Geez, let me go ahead and edit this whole freaking post.. lol. K240s are 55m, 30mm, k245s and k275s are 50mm. Can't find the fr anywhere, these are definitely under the radar. Looks like a fr test is in order. Regardless, I've seen similar results from these AKGs, some peakiness in the treble. K245s seem to be better tuned from the anecdotal reports I've read.

The K240 uses completely different drivers than the K245. The K240 has much smaller drivers but utilizes a unique bass porting system. The K245/275 are 50mm drivers that seem to be a variation of the K550 drivers.

K240s are 30mm drivers I think. K245/75 are 50mm

K245's arrived today.

Initial build impressions are good, I'm fond of the simplistic studio styling these have. The cable I quite dislike, the rubber coating comes off as feeling plasticy and is more microphonic than I would like. Good thing it is detachable! Comfort is ok but hoping it will improve with time. The earcups are less roomy than my K240 which was a bit surprising but also makes sense given these are designed to be semi-portable and compact.

I gave them an hour of burn in time before I did some quick listening and took some measurements. Generally I try to not let measurements have a big impact on my sonic perception of a headphone but they do give some insight and can be a useful tool.

The comfort does improve with wear, but sadly it takes a while. The stock cable is garbage, I quickly replaced it with a DT 1770/1990 cable I had laying around. Thank you for the measurements.

Thanks for the measurement. As one would expect, the main issues correlate exactly with the nonlinearities in the impedance curve, concentrated in the 1.5kHz to 5kHz range.

I wonder about your K240DF and the nearly 10dB peak at 4kHz. Judging by the curves alone, they would sound much brighter/edgier than the K245 in the upper trebles. Mine certainly do not; they're quite smooth sounding up there.

I would say the K240DF is "brighter" in the treble range however they do not come off as sharp or sibilant, but rather clear and smooth in how they render treble details.

I'm still formulating my thoughts on the K245 they certainly do some things quite well with regards to low end performance, however they seem to be lacking the midrange magic and dimensionality of the K240DF and K400.

I keep finding the K245 to sound a bit 2 dimensional, lacking the space around instruments. Still need let them burn in more and experiment with amplification but I'm thinking it will not change drastically...

At the risk of annoying the active users here, I'm going to ask again to the new k245 owners.

What's your opinion on the openness/ability to hear your own voice and ambient room noise / surroundings? Corti has already given fairly detailed answers but I'm just looking for some more opinions before ordering another pair of headphones I really don't need.

Cheers

Does anyone have both the k275 and k245? How different are they? I’ve heard mixed opinions about the k245 not sounding open.

I’ve got k702 to compare again as well. Just wondering if the k245 are an easy to drive open back or would just be too similar and I only fancy them as I have a problem and keep wanting new headphones :L3000:

edit - I have read the thread history I was just wondering if the people with both think they are worth having in addition. Thanks.

-about openness, as i said in my previous post for me it does sound open but it depends a bit on the track you are listening to (like always).
it is not as open as a sundara, but thats also another price-class and a planar aswell.

-drivability
im running my headphones with the fiio btr5 unbalanced output and that works fine.
without amp i just tested on my smartphone and it also works, strangely tho it doesnt get very loud on windows pc (maybe i have some settings wrong).
the k245 has gotten a bit quieter overall after i switched to the brainwavz pads. thats reasonable because the padchamber is a lot bigger than stocks, so the drivers have to to push more air.

i dont know what you are mainly listening to, but if its rock (as your name suggests) i would rather try the akg k361/371, they sound a lot better with that genre.
on the other hand for EDM and such, i definitely prefer the k245.

Awesome thanks for the detailed post. For the "openness", you mentioned the you can hear your environment better. I'm thinking about using them for gaming and work calls (as well as music). Possibly with these pads.

For gaming I really like to be able to hear myself when speaking, either naturally or through sidetone/mic monitoring. Does it sound open enough that you can hear yourself speak / sound natural?

As for the music, the genre list is long...

Cheers

Yea, i have a piercing on my left ear helix. when that gets cramped thats really uncomfy..

they are truly easy to drive from any (smart)phone, and the possibility with open backs to be able to hear surroundings, especially outdoors is very nice indeed. great for running aswell. one downside is, when mounting bigger pads the headphone will become fairly weighty, exceeding 300g which is a bit unpractical, due to not-so-perfect weight distribution. also the self-adjusting mechanism will get strained with time. do you notice this with your closed-back 275's too?

i dont think they will drop below 50£ . retailers will probably sell their last units and thats gonna be it. but you never know..

edit: i saw that u said drop to 49£ again, thats interesting, meaning they were at that price at some point..

Well I went for them and they arrived late Friday night. So getting used to them but I feel at times the bass is a bit of a mess in amongst the rest of the mix. I put the Brainwavez pads on, not had to use Corti's lace hack but I've got one on standby if they start to slip. Aesthetically I think these look great.

I'm still not sure if it's in my head or not but I feel that the balance is slightly off to the right though.

Looking good!

Give them some time to settle in - I noticed the mids/vocals were recessed at first but started to hear more separation with a few days of break in.

I'm growing fonder of their sound with time, looking to do some more comparisons soon now that they have opened up.
