New AKG CLOSED headphones...

That explains the recent price drop for the K270S'. I've always been intrigued by this can, despite Headroom's diss. Mostly because of the accolades bestowed on the K340, which is also a two-driver design (although very different actually), and the 270's staying power in pro-audio circles.

Interesting...I'd really like to know more about these. I've also been curious about the 270's, which to my mind have been a bit pricey.

The new K271 will more than likely be rather pricey, probably upwards of $200 (just a guess). The Older K270 can be had for $119 now.

Ahh thats far too much for me... can someone sugests a decent pair for closer to 50$ ?

You have many choices! Koss Porta Pro, Grado SR60, Sennheiser HD497 and more. I have both the Koss and the Senns and I am very satisfied with both, but I would go for the SR60's!

hmm thanks I explored all those options and more, I think I am seriously looking at the senn hd 280 because I would like closed headphones... How will these work connected to a sound card? This is mainly for games, ill listen to music out on my stereo

my biggest concern is, if I do that, I will ned to get a good mic... something I can clip on hopefully to the side of the headphone.. where can I get something like that?

MSRP for AKG cans:
270: $348
271: $249
501: $252
401: $208

Please read my short NAMM brief to find out how little I know about the 271

Edit: AKG's pricelist must be out of date if B&H is selling at $119.

What's your sound card? What's your max budget? looking for circumaural closed headphones for gaming, huh? Gonna get a mic that clips on to your shirt or can be duct taped to the headphone? What's your budget for headphone + mic, total?

Budget is fairly low.

I have a diamond MX 300 right now, but i'm looking to replace it soon, with either a phillips seismic edge, or a hercules fortissimo 3 depending on how much I can spend.

As far as the mic goes.. I don't need anything awsome, and i'd rather not spend more than 20$ on it.

Looking at the HD280 for headphones, and i'm going to try to figure out how to make some device to attach the mic to the headphones...

yep, definately waiting for some infos on the 271s too! Here in Belgium one can buy them for around 150 Euros (which would be about 150 Us Dollars...). Anyway, IMO the fact that they're replacing the 270s has a lot to say on how "good" the 270s really were... but maybe now AKG will master the 2-driver per cup concept after some try outs? That'd be cool!

I own a pair of K340's, and I can assure you that they have mastered the 2-driver concept.
