New 3-way hybrid BA+DD IEM - LZ A2 (including DD A1)
Mar 22, 2016 at 4:45 AM Post #902 of 1,030

I received my LZ Z03A last evening but unfortunately the 3.5mm jack is rusted very badly. I reached out to the seller to get a replacement. Does this cause any issues with the dap as in does it negatively affect the source device if I use it in this stage?

I'm pretty positive, it will affect the SQ. I just listened to my current favorite interstellar theme on them for less then few seconds and the church organ that kicks in at around 20 sec ~ mark sounds so lost. I really had to strain my ears to hear it so, I Instantly put it aside. I just hope, the bass on a functional pair is not too over-powering as it is in my unit. If it is, my preferred SQ is one that has loads less bass. :) I just hope seller sends me another one because at this point, I can't be sure if its the Sound signature (which will prevent me from trying anything with similar bass in the future, which I would hate to do because I just made up my recently to try bassier iems - Compared to Etymotics, and possibly change my preference a bit) or the defective connector that is causing me to strain for my favorite bit in the song.

I got my LZ Z03A today however there is a buzzling, rattling sound on the left earpiece. The noise is constant with any kind of bass. Seems like the driver is blown up. I'll contact with Easy store and ask for a replacement. Damn!

There is something to be said for presentation, packaging and how you secure the package before shipping. Received LZ A3 and Z02A review units from the AE Store Shenzhen HCkexin Electronics Co LTD. They packed the boxes to survive a nuclear war, which is not a bad thing, clearly they took care to make sure it doesn't get messed up along the way.

Also, looks like they include bonus stuff like cases and extra tips and accessories if you order from them.

With that said, pics are worth a thousand words or something like that

Will be a battle royale with The LZ A2, LZ A3 and MusicMAKER Shockwave III in the house. Cant wait to pit them against each other. If anyone has specific questions will try to answer them.

Also, i have a balanced cable so I will be running the A3 balanced later as well, out of my LH Geek Out V2 :)

Agreed that HCK does an excellent job of packaging. Plenty of padding, wrapped in plastic, then surrounded by many layers of packing tape to effectively waterproof it. My recollection is that the packages I've received from Easy were well wrapped, too.

I'm eager to hear your comparison between the LZ-a2, LZ-A3, and the Shockwave III.

Wow, a corroded connector? That's pretty disconcerting...

And you probably know there is a new and improved A2 on the way.
I'm guessing -

1) Narrower ear nozzle (much as I like them they can still work their way out my ear especially if walking and that is with ear-clips)
2) Bass port moved off the back so when you insert them in the ear you do not inadvertently close the port causing stress on the cone with a kind of vacuum pressure. That is the click-clack you might hear on inserting them, the cone flexing beyond what is was meant to, I'm guessing.
3) More colors than gold ! Silver and black seems a sensible bet. I've had these mistaken for ear-stud/implants a few times...haha.
4) detachable cable upgrade option.
5) Still sub-$100.

One wonders, though, whether all the new tweaks will actually result in better sound than the original A2. The A3 was supposed to be an upgrade to the A2 and earl;y impressions are that it's a side grade at best. Who knows really whether the new A2 will sound as good...

Shenzen HCK without a doubt goes the extra step, at least they have with everything I've bought from them.

Does that mean you will never have a problem when buying from them? Of course not, but it does go a long way when ordering product with 2-3 weeks delivery time. With HCK I'm willing to pay a slightly higher amount, if necessary, for peace of mind. Their pricing though, on everything I've bought there has always been equal to or better than their competition.

The above list I made won't, they are all functional tweaks but I'm sure he will nudge the SQ better. These small producers tend to watch their threads like a hawk and respond fast.

Let's hope. Like I said, that was the scuttlebutt with regard to the A3—it was supposed to be an unequivocal upgrade, and it's not clear that it was an improvement. Just because someone sets out to make an improvement doesn't necessarily mean it will be. Lao Zhong might have been overthinking it. But, like I said, let's hope the new one actually is an improvement.

which is not always a good thing. Because when you have people making incorrect statements like the A2 or A3 being bass light, the producers will make the next iteration even bass heavier. That is the only reason I can think why the A3 is tune the way it is, with the stock cable that is.

Too early to comment on sound and I am burning in the A3 now. But seriously how can anyone find the A3? How is that possible lol. I don't mean you but in general.

Thankfully, the seller is sending a new pair. No questions asked. I just hope I get a new (not refurbished or something) and a good one. Fingers crossed. This experience has certainly made me re-think my cross-border purchase plans. It might change with the arrival of a solid pair though. :)

LZ-A2...If It aint broke...Why Fix it? I was blown away by the fact they stopped making it. Will we see the same? Just personally....I dont think so

actually the A2 has one major design flaw, the vent is at the front which is easily blocked when inserting the earphones. puts major stress on the drivers, leading to driver flex. Thats never a good thing. That is just one thing to fix, I am sure Lao Zhong will come up with new ways to improve on what many people love about the A2 :)
