Hmmm. Strange.
It sounds OK but I am more technically inclined, I want to see figures as well.

If you or someone can come up with a datasheet that would be great!

Could we get a bigger (standard HiFi size, 42 cm?) housing for the Zhaolu DAC?
This could give us enough room to mod the headphone as well.

Some case that looks OK but needs custom holes for knobs, buttons and LED.
Anybody knows something that could be usable?

[later]

Lawrence sent me a load of pics of prefab cases which could be usable!
Now let's see if the holes can be pre-made, etc.

Done!

I was wondering about holes in the cases and materials to fasten the PCB's to the bottom. Wiring should be mostly OK. Would love to have all upgraded parts in there...

If you have any idea of how to make the bigger casing work: please post!

I was doing DC offset readings on another amp, and decided to test the zhalou. They're really high. One channel read 120mv on rcas, and 18mv on the xlr outputs...

Assuming your unit is not defective: Was it modded?
How did you do the readings? (so I can verify)
There is capacitance in the output path?

What else could change over the next few days?

ive noticed this a bit too...
tried running a tone generator on my computer through the zhalou, and i cant really hear anything at 16k and up...
with the computers built in i get another 1000hz or so..

whats up with that?
still sounds great though

Can't hear.
Or does the Zhaolu not output the higher frequencies?
Better measure first instead of listen to be sure?

im not sure how high frequencys i can hear, but what im trying to say is that when i use my computers built in soundcard i hear about 1000hz higher than using the zhalou.. i have no idea of how to measure this scientifically though..

I used a meter to read voltages between output left and output ground, then output right and output ground first on RCAs then on XLRs. My zhalou is box stock.

That's probably just your crappy built-in soundcard creating artefacts at lower frequencies.
I seem to hear up to 21K through my AC97.
Well, my audiologist respective his precision equipment tells me that my personal roll-off starts at 14.5K and I'm deaf beyond 16K.
That's common for an adult.
The often quoted human hearing range is 20 Hz up to 20 KHz, but the latter is the hearing capability of a newborn.

Ordered the 1ppm clock upgrade and listened some more to the DAC which is almost past burn in. Sounded nice and open.

I got info a sort of prefab, bigger case for having room for the upgraded headphone amp as well can be arranged.

new clock 1ppm has arrived, here are a couple pics of it installed. It sticks up higher then the previous clock, longer legs.

I reversed it and WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!

impression come later!

Great Pics, I will be interested to hear your comments on how much of an improvement it makes.

I did consider the clock upgrade for mine, but I am nervous about having to do the mods myself. But I have the DY2000 on its way
