I already own a pair of iGrados which I have quarter modded and removed the pads.

I am interested in getting a pair of Grado SR80's and wondered what the difference in SQ is between them both.

I live in london england so the price of the Grados are not cheap, I don't want to waste money on something that will not sound any better.

I will be using them with a SONY A1200 walkman and a C&C Box+ portable headphone amp.

If you konw you like the grado sound, go with the 80s, 125s or 225s, i love the 225s i have. But theres no way i would walk arond with my 225s in the same way i would with a metro style headphone because of the less the tight fit.

as someone new to head-fi too, the 225s have a much better sound then any headphone ive spent a long time with and would highly recomend them

The SR-80s compared to the iGrados sound more open and airy. Highs are a little more pronounced and the sound stage is a little larger/wider. However, there are more similarities between the two than differences. They share good bass and both have that lower end punch/kick as well as forward mids.

If you're looking for more of a difference in sound sig between the iGrados and your next Grado, then perhaps the 225s or even the MS-1s will do the trick. They both have a little more detail on the top end but compared to the iGrados, won't have as much bass. But the bass they do have is cleaner with the 225s having a bit more kick than the MS-1s. But the MS-1s will probably be much cheaper for you.

The MS1 is the best available portable fon money can buy (especially for us Europeans) - provided that isolation is no concern. But it's just more of the same compared to the iGrado, and thus somewhat redundant.

I'd keep the iGrados in usage and get some good closed fon if I was you.
