Well I've been researching a nice DAC for my setup for more than a month now and my head starts to spin every time. I was set on the Maverick but after hearing about some USB issues and the fact that I don't really need a headphone amplifier I decided my money would be better spent on a dedicated DAC.

What I need (and a lot of others as well) is a simple device that will support bit-perfect playback at 24/96 (or 24/192) without costing an arm or a leg. I saw the headphonica USB DAC cable but it does not say if it is 24/96. uDAC would be a good option but it seems to only support 16/44 which is not good for DVD playback etc.

Could somebody just take a second and recommend something so I don't have to read threads endlessly? Thanks!

Your price range would help out with suggestions.

Initially I wanted to spend no more than $150. I have attained a lot of great equipment around this price range and it seems to be a "sweet spot" when it comes to price / performance ratio. However the Maverick is $200 and I was about to buy that so I suppose I could go around that range.

I know many of you are going to say that a dedicated amp will provide better sound but let me tell you that HDCD's played through the HK -> Nak -> HD580 sound absolutely incredible so I have the utmost faith in my Nak's headphone amp.

Oh and thanks for the help I really do appreciate it!
