Hi guys

Perhaps i think of i should give up Sr60, i recently installed 0404, use pav2 to drive any cans that i have such as ksc75, mx550, sr60. The can i most disastifed is SR60.

I'm not good in describing, just feel sometime you can hear rough edge on vocal and intruments sound. The narrow sound stage too bloated if more intruments involved in a note.

It could be the music i heard now is mainly jazz, piano, orchestra, vocal. Sr60 generally perform great in rock,techno....

Base on my setup now and music i heard now, what can is suitable for me to feel an upgrade?

thanks

That should be plenty. Have a listen to HD595, HD580/600, DT880, maybe K501, a refurb'd HD590 is not too bad a deal either.

Hi,

We have a VERY similar setup. I have SR60, MS1, HD280Pro with a PA2V2. Like you, I was not happy with the soundstage that I got out of those cans above. I listen to mainly Classical and Jazz (Instrumental and Vocals). Thus, I actually upgraded into the DT880. Now, ALL my other cans are just collecting dust...DT880 is THAT good.

May I strongly suggest the DT880? I have listened (A/Bed) DT880 and HD600 and to my ears, I found the HD600 to be having a compressed soundstage. HD600 sounds somewhat like my MS1 except that it has a much smoother mids and a more relaxed sound. E.g. HD600 has very nice cymbals crash and decay...but it sounds like it is happening just right by your ears. DT880 on the other hand sounds just as good as HD600 but with a much bigger and deeper soundstage, i.e. the cymbals have the same nice crash and decay but it sounds deep..there is layering in the placement of the musical instruments.

Of course, all these impressions are out of my PA2V2...maybe a better amp migth give me a different impression. Out of my setup, I even had several friends A/Bed DT880, HD600 and MS1 and they unanimously agreed with my impression.

DT880 is EXCELLENT for Jazz and Classical and okay for Rock and Techno. So, it is quite a versatile pair of headphones. At USD$225, DT880 is possibly one of the best deals out there for headphones.

I have heard members of this forum recommending AKG K501s for its mids and soundstage for Classical, however, I haven't heard it, so I cannot recommend it to you. Perhaps it is good...you should definitely check that out...but my impression from what is stated in this forum, it sounds like K501s are not good for rock (no bass at all)... In anycase, I haven't heard teh K501, I cannot recommend them.

Hope this helps..
SH
