So in a few days I'll be driving into the USA from Canada. For peace of mind I'd like to have some form of roadside assistance, basically a number that I can call if I'm stranded out in the middle of a highway and need a towtruck. Is there such a service that spans both Canada and the US? Like an onstar button, except that my car doesn't have one..

911 is the number for emergency. Keep your mobile phone fully charged on the road.

I believe that they use channel 20 on radio for highway emergency if you use 2-way radio.

Enjoy your trip.... hope that you never have to use those numbers.
