Hey everyone,

I'm in a bit of quandary here, as I am left with a plethora of options. Which of these should I go for?

Akg k240
Phillips Fidelio
Sennheiser 518/558
V-Moda Crossfade LP
Superlux hd681 EVO

My listening preferences are for jazz but I find myself going through bouts of every other music genre a few times a weeks. Also, has anyone here ordered from gearbest?

Thanks in advance!

Budget? And do you want open or closed cans?

I've been shopping around a little bit, and I've managed to find each of these within the same price range (50-75). Although the superluxes are on sale on gearbest right now. I'd prefer semi-open or closed, but if the sound is something that everyone highly recommends, then I won't mind if it's open.

Whatever you do, avoid the V-MODA Crossfade LP. It's one of the worst headphones I've ever heard!

Here are my favorite headphones in your price range and various categories:

open: Philips SHP9500
semi-open: Koss KTXPRO1
closed: Audio-Technica ATH-M30x

At your price point for closed, I really like the Gemini HSR 1000.Also the Sennheiser HD202 II (less expensive) are a good value. For semi-open, the Evo is a quite fun can (a lot of bass), but bear in mind it is enormous, so it really isn't portable (looks a wee bit silly). I also think you owe it to yourself to at least take a look at the HD 518, even though it is open--it is so good sounding for the money.

I appreciate the recommendations. How would your guys' recommendations compare with something like the phillips fidelio or the akg k240, if you have listened to them before?

Haven't heard the Fidelio but the K240 is the reason why 60% of my headphone collection are AKG headphones.
If you want a good closed portable headphone check out both the Sony MDR-7506 and the shure SRH-840

Out of those options, I'd check out the Fidelio X2, but if I can add a few to the list, have a gander at the Audio Technica ATH M50x and the Brainwavz HM5. Both are pretty comfortable closed backs that do a lot of things really well!

I live in the U.S., so no discount for me.

Also, another question, which of these runs best without an amp?

Probably the X2. It's very efficient and sensitive. Achieving appropriate volume without an amp is pretty easy.

Be careful with "semi-open."  Superlux are labeled "semi-open," but they sure leak like open to me.

The EVO is a basshead can.  EQ the bass down and it cleans up nicely, but will still be on the warm and thick side.  668b/SR850 is probably more what you're looking for.  Superlux makes some closed headphones too.

You're not getting an X2 for 50-75.

I forgot to clarify. I found some x1s (used) on sale for around that price, although it's been a few days so someone's probably taken it. Quick question about the 668bs, then. are those well suited for jazz?
