Hi guys, this is my first post, AND I need your help!

I am getting a headphone package for my father. Both my father and I are quite experienced with speaker systems. We have very little experience with highend headphone systems. I want to get a highend (somewhat) headphone system for my father. He is not a person who would experiment with different components to find the best combo, instead, he prefer simplicity and quality. So this means I have to get him the best/right system on the first try.

So here is what I am looking for:

Budget: $2000 I would consider used components.
Music type: Classical / soft rock / movie / Opera
Source: Computer.
Components needed: DAC -> AMP -> Headphone.
Type: Circumaural

From what I have read, HD650 with cable upgrade sounds like a decent match. What package would you suggest?

headphone.com, their package deals have decent value. The only downside is probably the fact that their amps look a bit, well, let's just say they're not as shiny as the others. The DAC options are great value from what I've heard and it'll go well with your set up.

650/Eddie Current's EC/SS/VDA2 with upgraded PS.. or DAC1. Upgade the 650 stock cable.. I'd recommend. recabling from moonaudio, stefan arts, a pure sound, Zu cable..
Total cost 1,600-1,700..

HeadRoom is a good place to start.

Hmm... one headphone comes to mind. For classical, soft rock and opera? Try a K1000. With a Monarchy SM-70 Pro amp or to save money, the Big Joe, and for a Dac, I think there is a Monarchy M24 for sale right now in the source forums.

Corda Opera + HD650 could work out very nicely. That covers all of the needed components for those styles of music. You will then have more than enough in the budget left to also add a cable upgrade to the hd650. Another option is going for the Headroom Balanced Desktop, with an internal DAC, and a balanced hd650 recable. Both options can be fit into your budget, and will certainly sound very appealing.
