Ok so I am buying my first pair of good headphones. I of course have been researching like crazy but would like to hear opinions. My purchase cant exceed $150 (can go up 10, 20 bucks possibly), I listen to mostly hip-hop and I do like bass but do not wish to sacrfice sound quality in order to get that bass.

ATH M40x, Shure 380 Pro and the M Audio Q 40 are some I have been looking into HEAVILY

I own the Gemini HSR-1000 and I'm fairly sure it's the same as the Takstar Pro 80s.
I think the same headphone is sold under several different names.
To me the HSR-1000 is the best sounding headphone I have for under $100.
If Sony put their name on it I'm sure it could sell as high as $125 to $150.
 
I know zero about the ATH-M40Xs.

I have never herd of the gemini before now. Looking into them not really sure about them. Do they have a detachable cable. There only 80 bucks on amazon.

If you want insane bass then go for Q40 , it also has a nice midrange and non fatiguing treble. If you want an analytic headphone with good soundstage go for AD/A-700x , HD598 , Q701.

Not into the geminis. Those ones above are out of my price range. After maybe a year I am going to buy a 200+ set but my first pair cant run me more then 150-the closer to 100 the better.

What about the 380 Pros from Sennheiser, they seem a very reputable brand. How about some Shures in that range, any thoughts? Other brands? What about the ATH m40x? I want a reputable brand, good (not overpowering) bass and perferable a removable cable. This may be asking a lot for 100ish so help me get as close as possible. Also this is going to be used mostly with my Iphone that I use as an Ipod and my HTC One M8 rarely.

Ok what I really need to know is can I swap out the stock cable on the Q 40 with any 3.5mm cable. I only ask cause it says in order for the phones to work you have to screw tne cable so I dont know if another cable will work with that screw feature it says the Q 40s have. I read about people swapping it so I would assume. But I just dont want a massive long cord so if you cant I will go with the m40x.

I know for a fact that Q40 is compatible with the V-MODA boompro . But I don't know if it generally is compatible with other cables.

Thanks man. I dont want that v moda cable. I just want a regular 3 foot good cable.

The m40x have a 2.5mm cable so could I just use a 2.5 male to 3.5 male cable on those or no? The cable is really important to me seeing as I want to use them mobile. Could I use something like this with the m40x. http://www.infinitecables.com/av_25-35mm.html

Depending on how picky you are about color, you might want to consider Sennheiser Momentum on ear. They're comfortable, detachable cable, and have what I consider to be a very enjoyable sound. I'd say this is a long shot however, because the price is typically around 200. Amazon, for the US at least, has a new pair for 140.
