I've searched the forums and so far it seems the LM4562 is what gets the most recommendations for the DA-section. Anybody care to shed some light on the differences between these and the 2604 and LT1057..?

What opamp would be best suited for the power section?

Soundwise I'm looking for neutral, maybe just a tad bit more low end, but I'm definetely satisfied in the higher frequency area. Though, the more detailed midrange, the better.

And one last question(s), I'm looking at digikey.com and there are 3 versions of the LM4562; LM4562HA-ND LM4562MA-ND and LM4562NA-ND. What does the 4 last letter signify - and also, which one is preferable?
Also, when having the choice between ceramic and metal can-type opamps, which one is better suited?

Okay, that's about it.. phew..

LM4562HA is TO99
LM4562MA is SOIC
LM4562NA is DIP8

You need DIP8 opamps for direct swap on your ZL. I tried the stock 2604, LM4562, and LM6172. Using 2x LM6172s on my D2.5a now.

when i still had a zhaolu with opamps i tried quite a few combos, i had the AD823, DY2000, LM4562, OPA2111, OPA2107, OPA2604, LT1057

I personally preferred LM4562 in all 3 positions (in a D2.0) it has a very natural and high resolution sound that took the Zhaolu to a slightly higher level. It has a very smooth mid range and balanced sound.

Depending where you are you can get 3 of the LM4562NA opamps free from the nationals samples program, or at most pay for the postage to you.

Looks like I'm going with those + the LM6172's!
BTW, when switching opamps I noticed that the 2604 in the power-section is marked 6CW4J0B whilst the 2 in the DA-section is marked 66W1FCB.
What is the difference, and what is it that I need to take notice of when ordering so I get the right opa for the right section?

Sorry for the stupid questions, but I got zero experience with the insides of electronics.

i got my used D2.5a today. Listened to it for the first time and compare with my EMU0404 PCI. Urgh, very thin bass and muddy vocals. Swapped the stock 2604 out and pop in the LM4562s. Much better, but i have the 6172s on hand so i pop them in as well. The 6172s has stronger bass which sound exceptionally well on my CanAmp -> K701

I was curious about the zapfilter, but it's gonna have to wait a bit til my wallet has recouped from too much abuse lately.
Thinking however of replacing the RCA-connectors. Any suggestions which brand/model to go for..?

iianm someone reported that the stock RCA connectors are generic nickel-plated RCAs. just swap the opamps and shorten the output decoupling caps will do. I plan to either build a discreet output stage or just get a zapfilter after this month.

now my wallet is still recovering

BTW, anyone got a spare pair of LM6172's they wanna unload? I've checked 4 different sites now, and they all got these ridicilous handling fees of like $25 per order under $100. The opa's cost $3 a pop, and then you have to pay x8 that + shipping. Insane.

I signed up for 3 free LM4562's from Nationals samples program anyway, so thanks for the heads up on that d-cee!
Now let's just hope they approve. ^^
