I'm out of the mp3 market and money is short. I need a decent CD player for my trip next week. Here are my priorities in order.

1. Sound Quality: Must sound better than most HD players.
2. Anti Shock: Has to survive a turbulent plane ride or other things I might be doing.
3. Size: Remember I need a protable CD player, but that doesn't mean I'll take any anorexic CD player.
4. Battery Life: Looking for at least 8 hr+.

I've done a search, but it's more helpful when I'm being helped directly.

At that price point you'll have a hard time finding a player that meets all those requirements. I'll suggest the Sony DNE300 which at $60 easily meets 2-4. It should probably also meet the 1st requirement but that is debatable.

Simply put, at your price point, you will not find the player you describe. If such a player existed, all of the other PCDP companies out there would go out of business.

What are your headphones, and what is the best HD player that you've heard? IMO honestly unless you're going to be in a quiet place during your trip with good headphones/earphones, the difference in sound quality is not going to be really noticeable.

Actually, if you're just looking for a basic PCDP without MP3 playback, I'll recommend my PCDP, the Aiwa XP-EV501R. I got mine for $40 online through Sam's Club. It's a great PCDP in its price range. The sound is quite credible considering the price. There's a whole thread about it in here somewhere. Gets 33 hrs. playback I think. It can withstand drumming on the CD case with your hands (my method of testing skipping is to whack it around a bit. hold it and whack it from various angles) and such, but not dropping from large heights (also tested). I always leave the anti-skip off, so it will probably improve with it on, but it'll eat more battery. At any rate, a highly recommended PCDP in a good price range. Also comes with a cheesy but easily usable non-LCD remote.

I myself have heard a lot of negative about the Panasonic PCDP's around here.

Hey MD... does that Aiwa have a line output? How is the headphone amp circuit? Does it have current capacity to drive my MS2?

Do you notice a sound quality difference with and without the ESP?

thanks,
Garrett

I forgot about that one. It's actually a good choice if mp3 playback is not required.
