I know Etys are supposed to be the best small headphones, but I need something light and portable that will also allow me to hear pages and so forth. Price isn't a factor, but size is important.

Any suggestions appreciated.

for earbuds, try
sony e888
sennheiser mx400 or mx500

for regular open cans try
grado sr-125
sony mdr f1
sony d66 eggo (semi-open)

there are supposedly some good v.i.t.e. cans around too.

I second the MX400's-- great little earbuds, especially for the price. If you're going for something a little bigger, try the Koss Portapros... with the coupon code, they're only $25...

When wearing the MX500 I really can't hear when my cellphone goes off unless there's a pause in the music. I think you'd need something even more open than that, like Koss KSC35 (if you can find them that is) or KSC50.

Thanks Mon. How do I get the coupon code? Where do I order from?

I forgot to mention that I will be using these jogging. Would portapros be good in that case?

A somewhat controversial choice, but one that I recommend, is the Sony MDR A44. This is a tiny, .6 ounce vertical model that goes for about $25. Don't let the price mislead you; this is a worthy little 'phone. As I recall, Vertigo described its sound as an "open Ety ER-4," and I can't imagine a more apt description.

It's so light that it seemingly disappears in use, stays in place during vigorous exercise, and is sufficiently open that phones and pagers are easily heard. What's not to love?

It will never become your personal reference headphone, but I think you'll enjoy it. For twenty-five bucks just grab one, try it for a few days, and pass it along to some worthy teenager if you find you hate it.

Spad-

Thanks. I'll get one ASAP and let you know what I think of it. It doesn't have to be the greatest thing in the world for gym use. I'm always concentrating more on my panting than on my tunes then anyway.

Redshifter-

Vertical in the ear, right?

TMC-

Do the Koss clip ons stay on fairly well while jogging, etc.

Thanks, guys.

For jogging the KSC35 are really excellent but the KSC50 can be a bit too loose for that. The only problem is getting a hold of the KSC35 since they're discontinued, but if you can find a pair they would be great for the way you want to use them.

Good. I believe you'll be surprised. Have you reviewed the A44L threads? If so, perhaps you won't be surprised.

Lightweight? Comfy? Portable? Open? My friend, I believe you speak of the Koss Portapros, only $25 + S/H from Koss with coupon code 617A

EDIT: Jumped the gun there a bit. I just read you'll be using these for jogging, so look for some KSC-35s first. If you can't get ahold of a pair, I think the Portapros would work fine. I've heard the KSC-50s are too loose for jogging/running.
