Either clean the lens, or put a disc into the player, and spin it with your hand... does the disc look to be spinning smoothly? if it is spinning slightly off centre then this will generate unrecoverable skips... if it does look off centre, push on the centre spindle until you feel it click... see if that helps

My D-311 was incredably skippy and had problem tracking the first track. I open it up. There is one of the 3 rubber "ring" that hold the mechanism was busted. I just try to reshaped it and it help a lot with the skipping.

Other than that you can try to fiddle with some pot inside check here He does it by trial and error but it better done with a service manual it tell you exacly how to fine tune the pot. Altho you'll need an oscilloscope,a frequency counter and a voltmeter if you want to do it properly. But the trial and error could work.

I have a question I'v seen software solution to make elcheepo oscilloscope with your soundcard. I know those doens't compare to a real scope but is it sufficiant to do pcdp repair? I could try with my denon dcp-100 which I have the service manual but my denon now is very stable if it ain't broken I prefere not to "fix it" especialy with a fake scope

Here the link for the Soundcard scope
