Hey yall,
I play CS just about every other night for a few hours. I love this game, have played it for a few years now but hadn't played it for 2 years. So now I have the Source edition and love it. I do have a problem though. Not every time I play, but more often than not, CS will be running great, then all the sudden it will freeze and play the last half second of sound on a loop with the last frame stilled. Sometimes it exits to windows, but other times it just freezes and I have to manually restart my comp. I have all my drivers up to date, have a pretty good system that should run it just fine on all the highest settings. I tried it on lower settings and it still happens. My vid card is an EVGA e-GeForce 7800 GT and have a dual amd on nvidia board. Any suggestions? Thanks

How much memory do you have? If your running background programs, that could be causing lockups, even with a dual core. If you don't have 2 gigs, you ought to because it is now the standard.
Heres my specs FYI:

DFI LanParty NF4 Ultra-D
AMD Opteron 165 @ 312x9=2808mhz (Watercooled)
2x1gb Crucial Ballistix 3-3-3-8 @ 280
eVGA 7800GTX @ 500/1300 (Watercooled)

(my hobby before head-fi was overclocking :P)

Yeah, I only have a gig of patriot. It isn't anything with playing music in the background either, because I usually don't. And when I am playing music, the music keeps playing, so I know it's cs, not my computer. I proabably will get 2 gigs of memory, that's the last upgrade I have left. Anyway, I'll have a look at that website. Thanks!

Are you running 1 gig in a 2x512 or 1x1gig? And assuming that you are running a DFI LP mobo with 2x512 or 1xgig, you may have to dump all your memory. The DFI's are very picky with their memory. If you try 4x512, be sure to get the same manufacterer, speed, and model. You will also HAVE to run at 2T command rate, which does cause a performance hit. If you have a 1gig stick, again, make sure you have identical mnfr., speed, and model and be sure your in dual channel. DFI mates well with most OCZ, Mushkin, Corsair, G.Skills, Patriot, and other brands, but make sure you don't skimp; its like putting regular octane in a race car (i.e. cheap memory into a high perfomance motherboard). I would go for these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231021 theyre probably the best money for performance. They rival Ballistix but are a lot more reliable. But when in doubt, OCForums or DFI-Street
