Hi ,
 
      I need an advice whether to choose a DAP or DAC/AMP for my Velvet IEM.
 
      I like to stick with my smart-phone and DAC/AMP option, but again lot of compatibility issues - if i change from android to iPhone
      So opted to go with DAP - shed some light guyss....
 
      my preferred choices are 
 
     DAP:
 

1.   iBasso  DX90

 
 
    DAC/AMP
 

1.    Meridian Explorer
2.    IBasso D14

I'd say you're on a good thing with iBasso DX90, especially on firmware v2.2.0. I use DX90 with Tralucent 1Plus2 which I'm overly content with. Personally the thought of carrying a dac/amp strapped to my smartphone doesn't interest me, too bulky cumbersome imo. Others might (and do) handle it. I have a mindset of keeping the setup simple as possible, Dap > IEM. Simple is often sweet. You could also consider Cayin N6, Pono Player as alternative options.

Seems pretty non-user friendly to me as well. And then I think it's a plus not to be using my phone battery to play music.

Thank you....and how good is to compare DX90's sounstage & instrument sep. vs the pono player? Cayin N6 should be far better in that segment i guess. Have you tried HRT microstreamer(auditioned)? if so, share your comments with DX90.
