YOu shoudl have outputs on the laptop right now. You can use those or get an external DAC/amp and connect that through whatever you have available on the laptop.
Then conenct the DAC to whatever you want, for some devices you will need an amplifier and for other devices you just need line outputs from the DAC.

fwiw enjoythemusic.com had a great article on the best sub 2k setup a few years back. basically magnapan's rotel integrated amp and some cd source. right now i'm leaning to an apogee duet for DAC/heaphone amp/speaker pre-amp, then magnepan mmg's, and a rotel stereo amp. maybe a sub woofer later.
