Hello all,

I recently delved into the world of Stax with the SR-404. And it is wonderful!

But I am having a few problems with my amplifier. I have tested the output and it appears to have a short. It will static up when the end is moved slightly on the jack. Any suggestions on course of action with this?

A bigger problem of the two - I am hearing a hum emanating from the headphones which disappears when I am touching the volume control. It can get pretty loud and I have to turn up the volume to try and drown it out (not a good idea). I was not hearing the hum to this degree when I first got it. I am not sure if it is a grounding problem? I tried turning it and my source off and on but it didn't fix the hum.

Any suggestions?

Let me see..
1. Same static noise when you use both outputs?
No idea what this could be, besides some bad soldering joints somewhere in there.

2. Ground hum. Do you have all the audio components (source, amplifier, ...) hooked up to the same outlet? If not, try that (power strip may be needed).
Alternatively hook the GND knob on the back side of the SRM-1/MK2 to ground

Edit:
Congratulations with a really nice Stax system.
