Im a junior in highschool and I go to a thing called career school which I take a Electricity class and I take a bus from my original school to this career school. Its about a 45 minute ride and like 40 other kids ride the bus too. Well theres this kid on the bus that listens to rap like I do and he just has a regular cd player and regular black headphones that go across the top of your head and his are loud as hell!!! He can be sitting like halfway back on the bus and I can hear like the beats and stuff all the way in the front of the bus. Well I take my iPod shuffle on the bus and I hate the ear bud things cause there uncomfortable. So I used my sony behind the headphones from my sony pysch cd player and they werent loud at all and they sucked.

So I went to target and bought some regular Sony headphones that go across the top of your head and they were like $12 and they are kinda loud but not as loud as I want them to be.

Does anyone kno what kind of headphones this kid has? All they say is Digital on both sides and DIGITAL across the top of it. 2 kids on my bus have the same headphones.

Also is it the headphones that make the music louder?

Thanx

I cant believe you made it this far without realizing louder sound does not equal good sound and that you made it this far without realizing that whatever the 'kids' walk around with sucks. No exceptions, unless they're from here.

Anyway:

1. What amount of money do you want to spend?
2. What kind of music do you listen to? Apart from rap, if so, buy yourself a stereo set or something and run away, fast.
3. Do you like hearing things without hearing aids?
4. Are you feeling lucky, punk?

(And do you value your wallet?)
5. How old are you?

So do you want to get a headphone that sounds good and is obnoxiously loud enough to annoy everyone else too?... Is that your ideal scenario?

Or do you want an isolating headphone that blocks out noise and does not annoy others?

I didnt think they made headphones that say digital any more.... that was an 80s thing

Yes headphones make music louder. Without the headphone there would be no audible music.

Get out.

Just kidding.

But please do make the distinction that people around here are more concerned about sound quality than sound quantity. If you want good sounding headphones that will block out the rest of the noise on the bus then we can help you. If all you want are a pair of headphones that saids "Digital" on the sides and are really loud, then you best be looking else where before people here start flaming.

haha i know exactly what hes talking about. Everyone in my school has ****** 10 dallor headphones that came with their mp3 player and think their hot stuff. I'm smarter than that. hd-280's, perreaux amp, audigy 2, av710 :/ (small budget stuff) But i feel the audigy sounds better than av710.

I just want headphones that are like $10 cheap ones. I do care about sound quality but it doesnt have to be like perfect. The sonys that I bought have really good sound quality to me and they were only $12. Also I want them to be loud too.

All I mainly listen to is rap.

Check out Koss. I'm also a HS Junior, but I don't ride any busses. Koss has some really good phones that are pretty cheap. Try the KSC-75s. They are about $12 too. If you're willing to spend a little more, and don't mind larger phones I'd check out the Sennheiser HD201s. I got some for my little bro for his bday and he loves them. It's probably not the greatest for rap, but it isolates pretty well and sound is very good. Plus its really cheap at only $20. (I got'em from tigerdirect.com)

few from Koss are definitely good value, but people here spend 10 times or more than your budget just on their cables...

and people here certainly look for how good the sound is, rather than how loud it goes.

ask the quality of any headphone and there will be plenty of response, but ask how loud one goes and people will think you're joking.

perhaps another site would be more suited for you....

If you think those Sonys are good then you're going to be surprised. To be honest most of the lower end Sony's suck horribly according to the standards around here.

Now to clarify, do you want loud headphones because you want to block out the noise from the rest of the bus, or do you want the rest of the bus to hear you? If you only want to block out noise you might want to look into earphones, they do a much better job of blocking out noise and won't make you go deaf by the time you're 30.

If you just want the rest of the bus to be able to hear want you are listening to, then I really think you are in the wrong place.

For about $15 you can get a pair of koss ksc 75, I don't really know how loud they get but they sound really nice and have good bass. But they don't say "digital" on the side.

I think Sennheisers makes good $20> earbuds if you want to look for those. Again, I don't know how loud they are.

I really think you are asking the wrong question. Loudness has nothing to do with good sound quality. Just get some good isolating ear/headphones.

how about some koss sparkplugs
cool.gif

not the greatest sounding headphones, a bit bass heavy, and muddy in the midrange. although with my mp3player, the volume setting is on 1, and its still loud for me. they are just about in your pricerange too($14 or so). they will also provide some sound isolation for your long busrides.

the ksc 75s that everyone is recommending definitly sound much better, although the bass heavy sparkplugs will probably be just fine for the type of music you listen to.

the end.

its the source that controls the loudness of the headphones, if it has a strong out put then louder sound. even if the cheap ones you bought WERE cheap, they may have been hard to drive. why not actually buy something youre happy with instead of buying 10 headphones. to block out sounds why try, for starters, the EX51's from sony. seriously, making your headphones sound louder wont do you any good. itll just be louder and become distorted. the isolation form the EX51's should be enough to just muffle out the outside noise and produce boomy bass, which is awesome for rap.
