Hello, I am a newbie here and I need help on choosing good headphones. I have been using HD 202 for the past few years and I liked them but the cable broke, now I am looking for an upgrade. I've been looking in to the ath m50s for quite a while now so it would be nice if you would reccomend headphones in a similair price range (higher price than m50 would be a little too much for me but if really good then i might work it out).

I'd like a bit of bass on my headphones I listen to all kinds of music from rap to classics and club music.
I'll be using the headphones for gaming mostly then music movies and will be travelling with them like daily bike rides and etc... I play mostly counter strike so an upgrade of hearing steps from hd 202 would be good but they did get the job done.

Maybe I am asking too much maybe i should buy headphones for music and earbuds for gaming or vice versa. Hoping that you will help to make up my mind :)

You should read about the Soundmagic HP150!

Best Luck!

+1 on the HP150s.

The M50s have a bit more bass emphasis, but the HP150s win in every other category for me: better bass, mid, and treble quality, better soundstage, and better imagining.

Another headphone to consider could be the K553 currently on Massdrop for $119.99: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/akg-k553-pro-studio-headphone (you must register to access it). Here is a thread that discusses them: http://www.head-fi.org/t/760386/new-release-the-akg-k553-pro-featuring-a-killer-massdrop-deal.

Thank you for all the responses. I've looked in to both of these, I'm currently in the UK and getting a pair of k553s would be a bit hard. And hp 150 seem undurable and they are 70 pounds more expensive :frowning2:
Any more suggestions? :)

So the price is good on the akg k553 and I really like them but what about the fixed cable I'm afraid that it would break fast

I don't think so, just a little care an that's all you need to enjoy them for years. Main downfall could be their size and fit. Probably not a great headphone for bike rides and so...

You should consider the Focal Spirit One and Focal Spirit One S
The Sony MDR-1A might work as well, it's also very comfortable.

I strongly suggest the Chinese (cheap $50) Superlux HD681 or HD668 over the ($120-$150) ATH M50.
I own bought & can not tell a difference between the two headphones.

Here is a comparison thread

For literally 1/3rd the price, you can get equally as good sounding headphones!

Greit suggestions guys I am torn between the HD 661 right now and k553 how do you think they would compare? K553 build seems better, but I would save 40 pounds by buying the superlux. How much of a sound difference is between them?
