Hi guys, I got the shure E5c and HD650 recently, and i been looking for a amp for them, MY source is IPOD and Sony D-NE20(going to buy a home CD-PLAYER SOON), but seems i just can't make up my mind, so hope ya guys can give some suggestion. BTW, I am newbie ....so if i ask some really dumb question please excuse me. First I really don't understand the difference between a AMP and pre-amp, and it is safe to buy the used-amp from ebay, b/c the price on the ebay are much lower. right now i am thinking buy the HeadRoom Overture DAC, how u guys think of this?

Please don't take this as harsh, it's just advice:

1. Spend some quality time reading these forums, I mean like hours. You'll find more knowledge here than you know what to do with. And most likely find the answer you're looking for, you're not the first to ask it.

2. The Overture DAC was a limited production run so unless you've found a used one you're not getting it. Luckily for you they just introduced the Micro DAC which is the sister DAC of the Overture. Both are so new that there isn't much in the way of reviews. Based on Headroom's history I think you'll be fine. Understand that the DAC is not an amp though, you'll really need something like the Headroom Micro, or any other quality amp to pair with those 650s. They need POWER!

Hope that helps and welcome to Head-Fi, sorry about your wallet.

Based on your phones and portable source you wont go wrong getting a Xin Supermacro V3 with 4 switches. Do some research on the forum. It can handle the e5c and has plenty of power for your HD650.
