I allready posted some questions in the Musiland thread but I guess nobody noticed...

Well, here they are again :

There is apparently the possibility to turn upsampling on and off on the Musiland.

Could someone explain to me how to do that ? (My Musiland MD10 came without any manual).

When I connect it to my computer (via USB) or my Oppo 970 (via coax) the best I can reach is 44.1 Khz. Anyway to do better ? does it even matter ? Will the sound be better at 192 Khz ??

I run Foobar2000 on my computer.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Pierre

I remember reading somewhere that the MD-10 confusingly displays what's inputed, not what outputted (I may be wrong about this; grain of salt yada yada yada...). Given that 44.1kHz is the limit using USB (with some notable exceptions; the MD-10, however, is not one of them), it will always display this. There should be a menu option to turn upsampling on/off, though.

Thanks a lot for your answer.

Could it be the "Style" option in the menu ? There are two choices in this option : HIFI or AV... Any idea of what is the purpose of this option ?

Press the middle button, and hold it down. Then scroll up or down to bitdepth. Press middle button again to enter the menu. Press up or down to select the bitdepth and then press middle button to chose it.

MrSlacker - that is only for, as the name suggests, Bit Depth (16, 20, 24 bit)....I think he is referring to the sampling.

I think you must not confuse upsampling with sampling rate. The MD10 has a rated Sampling Frequency rate of: 32kHz, 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz, 96kHz, 176.4kHz or 192kHz (called "compatible" sapling frequencies). That is the sampling rated wich it can be fed (input)....it does not do any upsampling I believe. Sampling rate in = sampling rate out, hence why it is often described as "supporting" digital signal sampling rate as high as 24Bit/192kH.

Xenithon, thanks for the explanation.

So, how do I fed it with high sampling rate ? Does it depend on my source ? Is a computer capable of producing higher than 44.1 Khz sampling rate ?

Anybody with an idea of what is the purpose of the "style" option. I don't notice any difference when I switch from HIFI to AV...

Thanks

I previously had and MD-10 and i believe you can only output up to 48 khz through USB. If you want to use higher sampling rates, you may need to use an spdif optical out from your computer if it have one.

As for the style option, I think the Hifi mode sounds slightly more extendend in the treble than the AV mode.

I don't have optical out from my computer (at least I don't think so...) so I will stick to my USB connection.

I will play with the HIFI and AV settings to see if I can hear any differences (which I doubt since my ears are not that good...).

Thanks a lot for those information

Hi there,

To get a higher sampling rate you could always get a cheap interface like an Edirol UA-1EX or M-Audio Transit. Those would then connect to the PC via USB, and connect to the MD10 via optical or coax digital cables. Both go up to 96kHz IIRC.

Xenithon, would that give a significant improvement in sound quality?
