Wanted to get all my tags on id3v2.3 so I tried using itunes, but it seems to have left id3v1 tags there still and added v2.3... (foobar detects the tags differently to itunes and I get weird artist info coming up). How can I get all my tags to be standardised and all id3v2.3 so retaining how they are in itunes (remove id3v1 info only)?

Cheers

Rip to FLAC.....lol...jk...I use Foobar for all my tagging with FLAC. Right click on the album, tagging and it usually gives various selections....Then you can alter it a bit.

I'll make the switch the FLAC at some point. I could never hear the difference through my X-Fi vs mp3 v0 but uDac comes tomorrow so maybe things will be different then..

So foobar can delete all my id3v1 tags? I don't wanna have to retag everything again, I already spent hours doing that in itunes!

I have not used mp3s in years. But give it a shot. Right click an album, choose tagging, get tags from freedb and several options will come up. Take a look and choose the best one. You can always change it. I tag all my FLACs that way. If the album is not there then I manually tag it....

Well all my tags are exactly how I want them already (so don't want to use a database and have to edit them all again, I'm OCD about brackets (I like square ones [] ) and capitals), as itunes shows them. I believe it's all the id3v2.3 tags that itunes shows, and therefore I just need to remove the id3v1 tags that are also attached to the same mp3 files...

Oh okay, my bad...I believe there is an mp3tagger that seems to be pretty good. Again, my bad, I did not know you had them the way you wanted already...I'm OCD about tags too, but I like parenthesis...lol

Hmm OK, installed foobar onto my desktop and it reads all my tags just as I like them now (my eeepc was different) but I still want to remove id3v1 tags.. I can't find where the foobar compatibility mode is that forces it to do v2.3 rather than v2.4.

Nevermind it was in advanced!..

edit: scratch that it's detected some as different (just like on my eeepc)

edit: but when I get foobar to remove id3v1 they go back to the way I like them! woot

All fixed with foobar + itunes

As an off topic question, how do I get foobar to play a file when I double click? and how do I get it to automatically play the following song?

Good to hear...Once you Foobar, you won't go back...

Double-click plays a file. Playback-order-default, plays next song. You can also shuffle and do a bunch of things.
When you want to experiment it can look like this...Foobar rocks...

For me it's not doing either of those things!

I went back from Foobar to Winamp for ONE reason.

When on shuffle, it won't follow the cursor, like Winamp does. Makes me crazy.

Edit: I'm going to leave this up, to say just how stupid I can get when I'm dead tired. Opened up Foobar and found the option in seconds.

Edit2: How'd you get it to look like the first picture there? That's impressive, and really nicely done.

So you can shuffle though your library in foobar? I never figured out how to do that. Can you shuffle by album? Can it create on the fly playlists based on tags like iTunes' Smart Playlists. I make usually shuffle by album in a smart playlist in iTunes and my iPod.
