Need help fixing my portable cd player! Please!

I own a Panasonic SL-SX280. Unfortunately it got banged around in my backpack and does not work anymore. It makes no sign when I hit play, and I don't even know where to begin to fix it. do i need to open it up and do something? I'm a newbie, and I stumbled accross this site through a google search. please help!

start by checking the battery and power connections, clean the contacts try new batteries and give it another go.

I'm not sure about panasonics but sony have an internal diagnostic which does wonders. try searching for the repair manual for ur discman.
