Is there even such a thing? I'm looking for a headphone that will last a good 5 years; I've had so many things go wrong with headphones, and I'm getting tired of having to keep shelling out money every few months. I've had the Klipsch S4's and those broke because the plug at the end is straight instead of L-shaped and the tip bent when I bumped my phone against something. The Vsonic GR04's I had, I dropped the headphone down onto kitchen tiles one time by accident (have done this with the Klipsch's a couple times with no problems resulting) and the left earphone casing cracked and ended up breaking about a month later after using them consistently. And then there's countless other cheap ones that have fallen apart simply because they're cheap. I just want an earphone that will not break on me! Or at least have a warranty that will cover it if I do. I'm looking at used UM2's so probably around the $180-200 price-range is ideal. As for sound preferences, I listen to Rock, Alternative, Indie, punk, heavy metal. I also loved the sound of the S4 so anything that improves upon that will be great.

The Yamaha EPH100, V-Sonic GR07 are very good sounding IEMs and well built to last long.

yeah I hear the GR07s are great, but they're most likely made from that same kind of brittle plastic that my GR04s were

nothing to recommend from me but just commenting as I have a similiar problem as well~ keep breaking my earphones esp the cheap ones. I realized for my case I normally break the wire due so some clumsy handling thus I have got myself an IEM with replaceable wires so it would easier to replace next time. try taking that into consideration for buying your next IEM.

Although I saw some Monster Jamz run over by a fork lift coming out the better man,

I saw the JLABS J4 that looks pretty rugged. Aluminum casings and kevlar enforced wire seems tough enough. I don't own them so I can't comment on the sound signature. Might not be worth $40 though.

Don't be fooled by the marketing stuff by Monster. Their Turbines and Jamz can take a kicking, but the problem is in their assembly process. The housing tends to separate and fall apart after a while. Even started happening with my beloved Turbine Coppers, thus is why I switched over to Custom IEM's.

Looking into used UM2s more and more...I've been thinking that maybe these could be the ones although thy looks fragile I've heard they're quite robust and can handle quite a bit and that's what I'm thinking as well, and of course I'm going to take care of them really well now that I've had some experience. These babies would never even go through the gym doors. What do you guys think? They seem pretty durable

I strongly suggest investing in some headphones with removable cables. Also customs are pretty durable since the drivers are usually tiny and the housing is huge. But you should really be looking for removable cables. One I don't recommend, TF10 (nozzel snaps off or the socket gets pulled out).
 
I personally use the Se215's which aren't going to kill your bank account and have removable cables.

I've had my entire driver housing separate from the cable section when I was trying to change my Complys WITH the drivers still glued to the housing.

If you don't mind something very cheap, the Branwavz M1 can take some punishment. I've put them through the wash and dryer in my jeans pockets and they're still running fine now. The dryer melted the glue so the drivers came off the casing, but gluing them back together with superglue wasn't too hard. However, it has no strain relief going into the earbuds so I'm not sure how long that'll last. I've always babied my earphones though, so I don't know how well it'd respond to rough treatment.
 
Regarding the UM2s, I wouldn't quite trust how sturdy it is. I have the UM3X and the tip has come loose before. Not a fun thing to experience. The connection with the removable cable could also start cracking. The Westone 3/4 apparently have better build quality than the UMs, using a better quality plastic but might also be more than you're willing to spend.
