I'm dying to get a pair of new headphones since my AKG K26p(yes, I know) died quite a while back, and I've just been surviving on really cheap sony earbuds. So I need a replacement fast.
I like to listen to music on the go, so portability is a must. And I heard headphones are usually better bang for the buck in terms of sound quality compared to IEMs so that's probably what I'll get, unless you guys have something in mind.
The source is going to be an unamped Ipod and laptop.
I mostly listen to alternative, rock, indie type music, not really a basshead, although a little punch would be nice. Detail is really more what I'm looking for. So I guess a fairly neutral phone will work for me.
Budget is around $100~$150
Options I've been exploring are
Denon AH-D1000
Audio Technica ES-7
Grado SR-225
Grado has always intrigued me since they are always hailed as THE phone for rock. And I know a used SR-225 around $150 is a very good deal.
But the dilemma is that it doesn't offer isolation at all, but the prospect of getting a top-end Grado at that price is tempting.
So what headphone do you guys think work best for me? And remember these phones have to be portable, as I like to carry them around wherever I go.
