I just bought a sansa express and am using it to listen to audio books. I tried the JVC Bud Headphone (HA-FX33-P) and Skullcandy Smokin' Buds Headphones (SCBUDB). Both bothered my ears as do the earbud type, so I've now decided to buy the clip on type. These are the ones I'm considering from Future Shop Canada.
  • JVC HA-E130-P Ear-Clip Stereo Headphone $19.49
  • Sony MDRQ22LPS Ear Clip Headphones $34.99
  • Jensen JHNC51 Noise-Cancelling Headphones $59.99
  • JVC HA-NC70 Ear-Clip Style Noise-Cancelling Headphones $59.97
  • Sony MDR-NC6 Noise-Cancelling Headphones $89.97
  • Sony MDRQ66LWW White Headphones with Retractable Cord $39.99
I know these aren't expensive brands, but for my use of listening to audio books I don't need anything fancy. All I want is for the headphones to be comfortable as I'll be wearing them for 1-2 hours at a time. I'll be riding my recumbent bike or walking while using them. I have super sensitive hearing and need to have clear sound at a lower level as high levels hurt my ears.

I'd really appreciate your help on this because this is all new to me.

Thank you very much.

I listen to audiobooks at night when im trying to go to sleep. Don't know if you do the same but you might want to make sure you get something youre comfortable laying on/sleeping with.

Not sure about the JVC clips, but the others all suck for various reasons. (Especially #3...sheesh...)

If you need clip headphones, the best you will find at the pricepoint is the Koss KSC75 for only $20.

For isolation you can try something in the eH series (like the 250's) or the Koss UR40 (which is very comfortable but not all that isolating)

cathie, I'm not sure if all Sansas share the same signature but I personally found my sis's Sandisk player to be a bit trebly.

If this applies to your Sansa as well, I suggest getting really warm/subdued phones to subdue the brightness a bit.

Thanks so much for all of your recommendations. I am unable to buy the Koss KSC75 in person. Do you think it's okay to buy these online? With shipping, I can get them for $30 Canadian from Direct Canada.

Are there any other brands you recommend that I could buy in Canada?

Thanks so much.

I used the KSC75 for listening to the radio. It sounds like the perfect headphone for your needs, too. At its price range the KSC75 is unrivaled for its sound quality, so you're sure to get a good deal, perhaps you'll want to listen to music with them, too. Amazon is a great place to get them.

They're certainly worth $30 IMHO. They aren't the best headphones ever but are one of the best budget headphones I've heard so far. I know they're definitely better than the Sony MDRQ22's listed. $35? In the US they charge $15 and I wouldn't even pay half THAT amount for them--overtight bass, peaky mids and overbright.

i use senneisher the px100's. i use them to listen to audiobooks out of an ipod while on walks. pretty comfortable and i find the balance in sound easy on the eardrums, even at higher (but reasonable) volume. they should provide enough isolation to hear clearly, but they also will leak enough outside noise in so you can be aware of traffic arround you.

edit i saw you jsut ordered, nm im sure those will work.
