From Dell.ca

Will to spend about $1,200 CND and the laptop will be for work and some entertainment uses. What would you get?

I am really confused about all the different processors so I don't know how to choose.

I'll second the recommendation for the 6400. The 6400 (999$) and 640m (849$) are both on sale:

Edit: The 640m with a 2.0 duo processor (but with smaller hard drive) can also be had for 899$

If you want to go cheaper, the 1300 is priced at 599$:

EDIT: If battery life is an issue, make sure you get the 9-cell battery instead of the 6-cell.

The Core 2 Duo isn't out yet. You are thinking about the Core Duo. Merom which is the code name for the notebook Core 2 Duo isn't due untill August and won't be standard for a few months after that.

I recently bought a Lenovo 3000 N100 but I had a budget of only $1k.

The OP is in Canada, he stated he wants to spend up to 1200$ from Dell.ca. Last time I checked, Dell.ca doesn't sell Macbook or Macbook Pro laptops

Also, in Canada, the base Macbook starts at 1249$ plus shipping.

LOL

volcomjerk, the OP wants to buy only DELL computers, because he wants to buy from dell.ca.... This isn't a "recommend ANY laptop" thread... Please read more carefully

I would go with a Thinkpad or a Dell Lattitude. The business laptops usually have a better build quality than the consumer ones.

edit: just read you want a Dell. Go with a Lattitude rather than an Inspiron for build quality.

The dell core 2 laptop is your best bet. Get the 6400 and a 9 cell battery and you should be set.

Because it has better hardware specs?

D620 Latitude here, and it cost about the same as your macbook.

No complaints...(I can hear some Inspiron owners mewling from here!).

I'm using a e1505/6400 right now and love it. Its a little bigger than I expected but a good deal. The e1405 would also be a good model to get if the e1505 is too expensive.
